Job Title: Drill & Blast Engineer

Job Description:

The position reports to the Mine Planning Manager and provides timely and professional technical support to the sublevel cave drill and blast section to ensure safe and optimized extraction of the ore body. The role will provide technical support including the planning, design, scheduling, extraction sequencing, modelling, analysis, process improvement, reconciliation and reporting.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

All planning, extraction sequencing, design and scheduling of sublevel cave ring drilling and blasting, utilizing tools such as GEMCOM, Micro station and blast design software.
Monitor and react to control the fragmentation and waste dilution within acceptable limits.
Ring drilling, timing and blasting performance modelling, in-situ performance assessment and adjustment according to local and global cave and tunnel conditions in consultation with the Geotechnical Engineer.
Implement and manage control systems to ensure drilling, timing and blasting.
Drill and blast cost planning as well as reconciliation, monitoring and improvement of cost
Participate in compiling the Strategic Business Plan for the mine.
Management of the Drill and Blast database.
Maintain and improve safe work practices.

Minimum Requirements:

Tertiary Qualification – NHD, B.Tech, BSc or B (Eng) in Mining Engineering will be an advantage.
Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency.
Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Metalliferous Mines) will be an advantage.
At least seven years’ underground mining experience and mass mining experience will be an advantage.
Code 08 Driver’s License.
Competent in Microsoft Office.
competency in GEMCOM/PCSLC/Ring design or Mine 24D.
Working knowledge of specialist Drill and Blast design software will be an advantage.
