Recruitment Officer – Heavy Duty Drivers (4 – 7 Years’ Experience)
Wellington
Transport/Logistics Industry
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience.

A well-known, established logistics company based in Wellington specializing in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Transport. Head office based in Wellington and branches across South Africa. Company has a large fleet that plied within the South African region. The Company has grown in leaps and bounds and currently has over 150 trucks, which include semi-trailers and special type of trucks, serving reputable freight firms and organizations.
Job Summary
The Recruitment officer will be responsible for transfer of data from paper formats into computer files or database systems. The candidate must poses exceptional Microsoft office and typing skills. The Recruitment officer will be responsible for delivering all facets of recruiting success of Heavy Duty Drivers. This will be achieved through the development of local and national recruiting plans, employing traditional sourcing strategies and resources as well as developing new, creative recruiting ideas.

Recruitment Duties include:

1. Identifying driver recruitment needs
• Assess driver needs on a weekly basis e.g. number of drivers that left, number of trucks vs. number of drivers, spare capacity of drivers (must be 18%)
• Receive application forms daily by 07:00;
• Update recruitment spreadsheets with new applicants received and application status;
• Screen and process application forms received for suitability as code 14 driver in line with Anderson transport standards;
• Arrange for LVA, Criminal Checks, PDP and Medical,
• Arrange a panel interview for applicant as a learner driver
• Feedback to management of drivers needs
• Identify the number of drivers to be recruited monthly (avg. to be recruited is 5 drivers per month)

2. Identifying / sourcing drivers for recruitment
? Driver / Application search for Heavy Duty truck drivers:
? Do daily / weekly search for drivers by:

• Placing an advert for Heavy Duty drivers in approved media,
• Searches via internet (e.g.: Gumtree)
• Networking to recruit drivers,
• On Route - Engaging with external heavy duty drivers during road trips and sell Transport to them as an employer of choice,
• Distribution of flyers to advertise vacancies
• Use of recruitment agencies where required,
• Approaching transport companies that are closing,
• Use existing database of driver applications,
• Review database of drivers who left Transport

3. Recruitment Process Include:
• Receive application forms daily by 07:00.
• Screen and process application forms received for suitability as code 14 driver in line with Transport Standards.
• Update recruitment spreadsheet of new applications received and application status.
• Evaluate each application in terms of key (pre-determined) criteria for appointment for example 3 years super link experience, valid PDP, Valid Code 14 license etc.
• Initial interview held where applicable to evaluate suitability.
• Present (to Remo Williams and Josef Williams) applicants to be considered for reasons by 07:00 the following morning. Indicate reasons for considering / not considering an applicant.

4. Training/School:
• Ensure learner drivers are signed in before 07:00 daily and signs out;
• Provide attendance register to specified individual so that learner drivers are paid based on attendance;
• Marking of exams
• Reviewing test completed for each module and submit to moderator;
• Answer calls during training to ensure the driver trainer is not interrupted whilst training.
• Driver upgraded – Including all duties reports and solutions;
• Monitor of drivers and report if concerns arise
• Evaluate trip sheets
• Council new drivers and provide guidance if needed to endure drivers applies to company standards.
• Disciplinary Action – Identity, handle and RA reports for drivers needs to be completed.

5. Following the recommendation from panel to appoint an applicant
5.1 As trainee driver:
• Reference checks to be completed - must show complete history and gaps in employment with reasons.
• Arrange/ do a drug test, check valid driver’s license and PDP is available for a panel.
• Ensure applicant completes the application form, and attach passport, ID, bank details.
• Arrange for LVA, Criminal Checks, PDP, Medical
• Arrange a panel interview with the applicant as a learner driver.
• Monitor progress of driver in training and advise when a driver is ready for appointment as a permanent driver.

5.2 On Route inspection duties include:
• Identifying new routes
• Check road conditions
• Check truck stops
• Check refueling points / Service Stations
• On Route inspections of vehicles and loads

5.3 Qualifications and Experience:
• 4 – 7 years’ experience in the transport industry.
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in the Recruitment industry.
• Qualification related to HR or Management.
