Job Title Group Legal Manager

Purpose statement
To manage the company’s legal needs and identify and implement intercompany synergies within the legal scope
Position in the organisation

Reports to:
1st Line Level: CEO
2nd Line Level: CFO
Duties
Key Responsibilities
• Drafting and reviewing of legal agreements applicable to the different business units within the group
• Advising on the impact of legislation applicable to the different business units and their clients
• General legal advisor responsibilities
• Drafting of legal opinions
• Engaging and briefing of external legal counsel
• Legal documentation management
• Legal risk management reporting
• Presentations on various legal topics and developments to the different business units, with a specific focus on compliance with legislation
regulated by the FSB

Job Evaluation Criteria

B.Com/LLB/Admitted Attorney with 3 - 5 years’ experience in Legal, Risk and Compliance with exposure to the financial services industry
Competencies

Technical
• Excellent drafting skills
• Ability to interpret legislation and make recommendations taking into account business requirements
• Working knowledge and understanding of financial market legislation, primarily Cisca, FAIS, FSB circulars and notices and FICA
• Good knowledge and understanding of financial services industry and financial instruments
• Good knowledge and understanding of the various kinds of business units described above
• Good knowledge and understanding of corporate law and good corporate governance (i.e. the Companies Act, JSE Listings Requirements
and King IV) would be beneficial
• Computer literate with proven proficiency in MS Office (Word, Powerpoint and Excel)
