Our client in the Engineering industry is looking to engage the services of a Product Design Engineer. The person filling this role must form an integral part of the designated project team with regards to all vehicle electrical/electronic development matters through the life cycle of the product family to ensure the vehicle baselines support the delivered products.


MAJOR TASK HEADINGS

Vehicle design engineer’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Vehicle electrical/electronic design responsible.
• Ensure that the technical risks in risk matrix is up to date at all times and accurately reflects the technical risks
• Production support, local and international. Attend line meetings and investigate validity of reported problems.
• Develop and release solutions to problems experienced during the building process.
• Develop and release solutions to problems experienced during the client usage of the vehicle.
• Arrange, attend and minute design reviews on component, subsystem and vehicle level.
• Supply guidance to subsystem and component designers.
• Ensure vehicle conformance to legislation
• Liaise with client to conform to requirements and resolve issues. Customer discussions in conjunction with Program management.
• Test and evaluation, generate test requirements and test plans. Discussions with the Test Department and review of test results.
• Proto build project management activities.
• Proto build, process, procurement and line build support. Drive purchasing, stores, delivery etc. to get the correct parts for the correct vehicle on the correct line.
• OEM point of contact. Information exchange between BAE and the OEM with regards to technical specifications and requirements.
• Provide technical support and insight regarding the vehicle and its subsystems to the logistic support engineers during the LSA (logistic support analysis) (FMECA, Task List, Spare parts definition, etc.)
• Review and sign-off the ILS documents (Operator manual, maintenance and repair manual, illustrated parts catalogue)
• These tasks must be executed following LCM principles inside the engineering framework. Some tasks can be delegated but remain the responsibility of the Vehicle Design Engineer.


OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Management experience with clients, programme management, engineers and Marketing.
• Computer literacy (most notably MS Projects, MS Office, MS Excel etc.).
• Programming skills: MATLAB, C.
• Experience in design for EMC
• Proficient in CAD design


Education (formal education)

• Minimum: Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
• Ideal: Masters in Engineering or equivalent postgraduate course.
