Our client in the Materials Science and Manufacturing (MSM) environment has a vacancy for a Electronic Instrument Technician in their Light Metals (LM) group. The LM group focuses on the development of technologies for producing and processing titanium and aluminium alloys for application in industrial sectors, such as aerospace, automotive and medical, including work on selected composites containing these metals.

The successful candidate will support a team of engineers and scientists that are developing novel process technologies from laboratory scale testing to demonstration on pilot scale level. The position is based in Pretoria.

Qualifications, skills and experience:
• National Diploma or N3 Instrument Mechanical Trade Test Certificate.
• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in installing, maintaining and repairing process control instruments such as temperature, flow, pressure, mass, current, voltage and position sensors, transmitters and controllers.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship to work with and support a number of different engineers and scientists.
• A goal-oriented approach
• Ability to work independently as well as in teams
• Computer literacy.
• Experience with ISO17025 requirements for calibrating and maintaining instruments.

Responsibilities:
• Design basic electronic circuits for in-house developed sensors.
• Construct and test basic and advanced electronic circuits
• Calibrate instruments
• Instrument installation: temperature, flow, pressure, level, mass, position, current and voltage, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC`s) panels, associated with Final Control Elements, valves and solenoids.
• Source appropriate process control instruments and liaise with suppliers
• Instrumentation fault finding and repair
• Provide technical input in solving problems
• General housekeeping in instrumentation workshop and pilot plant area
• Create and maintain equipment and instrument document files
• Maintain register of equipment and instruments
