Engineering Projects Department Manager – Engineering / Construction – Cape Town

Well Established company is looking for an Engineering Projects Manager to manage and develop the Engineering Projects department from client briefs through to installation, for our clients based in Sub-Saharan African countries.

Salary: Market Related (Depending on experience & Qualification)

Requirements
• Degree or diploma in engineering, quantity surveying or project management. This requirement is very broad – any relevant tertiary qualification.
• Could even be some with a commercial background with strong PM.
• A minimum of 3 years’ full cycle project management experience on construction projects.
• Project experience and/or working experience should include Construction of Steel Structures & Managed Projects in African countries.
• French or Portuguese would be an added advantage.
• Able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Works effectively with client, supplier and company personnel within all organizational levels.
• Be able to travel Local and international

Responsibilities:
Commercial Management:
• Research target markets and companies and prepare client specific proposals for solutions
• Manage new business opportunities to ensure repeat business
• Manage existing client relationships to ensure continued business dealings
• Ensure the development and growth of the Engineering Projects division with a resultant increase in market share
• Source new suppliers and products (both locally and internationally) and determine their suitability for target markets
• Establish relationships with suppliers and negotiate better rates
• Product range includes amongst others: pre-engineered metallic structure, prefabricated buildings, remote site camps, water tanks, geotechnical solutions, lifting solutions such as gantry cranes, etc.

Operations:
• Develop and ensure that policies, procedures and checklists are followed
• Manage the timely and accurate preparation of quotes to clients, including the clarification of client specifications, choice of suppliers, product quality, product packaging, profit margins, etc.
• Manage the timely and accurate expediting of orders to ensure that all client specifications have been met
• Ensure the quality standard and packaging meets client requirements every time
• Ensure the accuracy of all documentation from quotes through to orders, packing lists and customer invoices
• Ensure all necessary export and import documentation has been arranged on a timely basis
• Resolve any errors and manage any claims
• Ensure that all paperwork for each project is completed and filed
• As this is a hands-on managerial role, also responsible for the preparation of quotes and expediting of orders from time to time.
