Engineering Workshop Manager – Required for a company in Rustenburg. The Workshop Manager will manage and lead a team of people in allocating, workload and managing the day to day operations in the workshop. It requires the job holder to co-ordinate resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and to a quality standard.

Essential Job Functions

General
• Responsible for job allocation and job flow in the workshop including job scheduling and labour allocation for day to day operations.
• Co-ordinate resources, (operational and human) schedules and activities to
• Effectively manage jobs.
• Regularly report progress on each job and quickly communicate delays or concerns with the Director & Operations.
• Report on manpower overruns or shortfalls.
• Work with the Director - Operations to respond to client’s requests for updates on the status of their jobs and keep the communication channels open to ensure information is accurate.
• Receive and review feedback from customers and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Work with the Directors to investigate customer complaints and concerns arising from products and suggest appropriate solutions.
• Discuss with team to identify appropriate course of action.
• Develop and implement systems to record, file and store information pertaining to client enquiries.
• Identify staff that require on-going training and implement training opportunities to ensure their skills are improved.
• Work with apprentices and semi-skilled staff to role model appropriate technical skills.
• Provide feedback to staff that are not performing to the expected level and ensure human resources are informed of trends in performance.
• Promote a Health and Safety culture within the business.

Production
• For all jobs, hand job cards to person who should do the job, update job card register and picking list before issuing job card.
• Clearly indicate which items should be manufactured and the quantity.
• Regard job as incomplete until job card has been returned, completed and job has been checked.
• The format of the job card is for the workshop managers own discretion.
• Ensure that all items on the job card are complete.
• Ensure that all the items on the job card are numbered correctly.
• Ensure that material is available for Job requirements.
• Material should be cut, drilled and prepared where possible before worker starts with job.
• Production includes all phases, such as assembly, welding, fettling, sandblasting, rubber lining, loading etc.
• Overtime should be approved with management before commencing.
• Reports delays or when delivery dates will not be met to Workshop Director.

Loading
• Scheduling of when jobs will be completed to schedule transport.
• Inform Workshop Director of required transport needed in advance.
• Check that loading is done according to customer standards.
• Ensure that all urgent items are loaded, if not inform Workshop Director before the truck leaves.

Data Books

• Place all job cards in a file marked for the specific project and with dividers for job cards

Housekeeping
• Ensure that lines are painted to distinguish between different areas.
• Ensure that walkways are kept clear at all times.
• Ensure that different material are not stacked on top of each other, but placed in the dedicated areas.
• Ensure that finished jobs are taken to fettling area.
• Ensure that unusable m/s pieces of material are thrown in the scarp bin.
• Ensure that unusable pieces of s/s material are stored and inform Workshop Director to arrange collection.
