Job Description:
The successful incumbent will be responsible for the environmental management system, interpreting and reporting on a daily basis. The incumbent will further assist the Environmental Specialist in identifying and managing the legal risks relating to environmental performance and ensure that the ISO14001 management system is functioning optimally.

Minimum Requirements:
• Post-Graduate qualification in Environmental Management and/or a suitable related field (e.g. Natural, Environmental, Earth Sciences)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental management, monitoring, data analysis, report writing
• Working knowledge of ISO14001
• Valid Public Drivers Licence (Code08/EB)
• PC Literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Tasks and Responsibilities:
o Implement and coordinate the Mine’s Environmental Management Program (reports) to mitigate impact and adhere to legal compliance with regard to water and waste licensing
o Maintain an internationally certifiable Environmental Management System: Review of policies and procedures, Aspect Identification and compilation of impacts register and linking of legislation to aspects, Develop and implement objectives and targets, Incident Management, Develop and implement emergency plans
o Monitor the effectiveness, suitability and adequacy of the programme
o Maintain the environmental discipline on IsoMetrix
o Identify rehabilitation initiatives
o Identify operational needs, design and implement relevant environmental interventions, keeping abreast with new research and best practices
o Promote environmental awareness and ensure compliance with environmental standards
o Monitor and assess compliance by the operation to the programme and applicable legislation
o Develop and implement effective communication, training and awareness programmes
o Ensure adherence to Codes of Practice for Medical Fitness, Standards, Procedures and Protocols
o Ensure personal and co-workers adherence and compliance to Security and the Company’s SHE objectives
o Required to work according to the Mine’s Code of Practice, and report any observations of this not being done

Other Skills / Competencies
• Good communication skills
• Must be able to present monitoring data to all levels of the organisation
• Specialist field in the environmental sector (e.g. Zoologist, EIA’s, Water registrations)
• Must be able to work individually and in a team
• Knowledge of the following will be advantageous: EMPr Implementation, EMS Implementation and EAI Process, Relevant environmental legislation:
• National Environmental Management Act; National Environmental Management: Waste Act
• National Water Act; Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act
