PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Implementation, monitoring and verification of controls for the purpose
in compliance with environmental management systems and legislative
requirements.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Ensure that the requirements of environmental licenses, permits, and
EMPRs are adhered to;
Ensure that continuous improvements initiatives are developed, implemented and maintained in order to reduce reliance on resources such as water and energy;
Ensure that waste management strategies and plans are developed, implemented and maintained to reduce, re-use or recycle waste in accordance with legal requirements;
Develop, implement and maintain best practice solutions in order to reduce the impacts has on the environment;
Take part in the development of legislation and policies as part of industry forums and ensure that measures are proactively implemented in order to adhere to new requirements;
Ensure that environmental awareness initiatives are implemented; and
Respond to, manage and investigate environmental incidents and ensure that root causes are identified and corrective actions are taken to prevent further action.

REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Environmental Sciences or equivalent
5years’ relevant experience as an environmental officer in a heavy industrial or mining environment
ISO 14001 qualification
Working knowledge of mining environmental legislation
Working knowledge of ISO Metrix system will be an added advantage
Computer literacy in MS Office – MS Word & MS Excel
