ESTIMATOR - CENTURION

Responsible for compiling estimates of how much it will cost to provide a client or potential client with products or service by working out how much a project is likely to cost and create budgets accordingly for Roads & Surfacing projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Acquire tender documents, drawings, information, etc. for various projects by:
Scrutinizing advertisements in newspapers, periodicals, etc., or
Invitation by the Client, Consulting Engineer, etc., or Hearsay
Arrange collection of tender documents;

•Analyse and assess tender projects in relations to the scope of work involved, budget value of the project, the resources required to complete the
project and noting any possible conflict with resources being utilised on existing contracts;

•Determine the influence of the prevailing site conditions by conducting site inspections;

•Clarify any obscurities in the scope of work by questioning the person conducting the site inspection and by noting questions asked by others;

•Processing tender documentation;

•Programme the work to be executed by:
Summarising the quantities of major activities.
Determining the team size and duration of activities.
Liaising with other Estimators or members of that tender team.
Prepare the tender program using the CCS Candy planning package.
Taking off quantities from the drawings, or
Comparing take off quantities to billed quantities
Tender Buying
Clarifying anomalies in supplier’s/sub-contractor’s quotations and/or qualifications.

•Estimating all work involving each project to be implemented;

•Decide on the construction methodology by:
Careful examination of the tender documentation including the project as a whole, the conditions of the contract, the project specifications,
drawings, site conditions

•Analysing the site, equipment, personnel and expertise required.

•Analysing and discuss with Management portions/sections of work which could be allocated to sub-contractors.

•Estimate the unit cost rates for the tender project by using the CCS Candy package and:
Calculating labour rates.
Assessing the individual billed items and calculating the labour, material and plant contents.
Comparing material suppliers and sub-contractor’s quotations.
Comparing costs of different methods of construction.
Using labour and plant outputs achieved on similar completed or existing contracts.
Discussing proposed methods and labour production rates with the related Managers.

•Amend the tender cost rates at post finalisation stage by adjusting the same as discussed during finalisation;

•Complete the tender document as defined in the rules of that tender document, including the completion of all Returnable Schedules;

•Execute delivery of the completed tender by delivering it to the relevant office;

•Obtain the tender results (if possible) by recording these at public openings;

•Assess the competitiveness of the tender by analysing the tender results

REQUIREMENTS

Grade 12 and a Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Civil/Building related tertiary qualification with Estimating experience

Minimum 2 years ‘experience in an estimating job related position;

Minimum 2 years’ experience in an estimating and planning package system will be an added advantage.

Must be Computer literate in MS Office;
