EXECUTIVE MANAGER

An exciting and challenging opportunity exists for the position of Executive Manager at the Southern African Bus Operators Association (SABOA), based in Fourways.

SABOA is a member driven Association representing more than 500 member companies across South Africa, operating more than 12,000 buses and coaches. It also represents 60 supplier companies that provide products and services to the bus and coach industry. SABOA is focused on creating a transformative and sustainable bus and coach industry in South Africa. It plays a key role in the transport policy formulation process and is an active and credible participant in the consultative platforms of Government. The Association is committed to representing the interests of its members through its lobbying, research, education and empowerment initiatives. Through its long-standing involvement in public transport, the Association has become known as the Voice of the Bus and Coach Industry in South Africa.

JOB OUTPUTS
As Executive Manager of SABOA, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the affairs of the Association, including but not limited to:

• Representing the Association in liaison and interaction with all stakeholders of the bus sector, including national, provincial and local
government, Parliamentary. Portfolio Committees, Provincial Legislatures, other industry associations, organised labour, passenger forums,
bargaining councils and regulatory authorities.
• Providing support to all the structures and branches of the Association and executing the resolutions of the SABOA National Council and
Executive Committee as well as overseeing and monitoring the activities of various sub-committees.
• Providing and coordinating industry comments and inputs on draft legislation, government policies and reports affecting the bus industry.
• Marketing and growing the membership of the Association and dealing with membership issues such as taxi intimidation, operating licence
issues, scholar transport, etc.
• Providing guidance and advice to members on operational, financial and legal issues.
• Managing the branches, operations, finances, staff, procurement, suppliers and contracts of the Association.
• Ensuring compliance of the Association with its constitution and by-laws as well as all statutory requirements.
• Managing media liaison, corporate communication, social media and reputational management of the Association.
• Compiling the Annual Report of the Association and presenting the monthly financial report to the National Council and Executive
Committee.
• Project management of the SABOA Annual Conference and Strategic Planning Sessions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

The ideal senior candidate for this strategic position must be an experienced manager with a proven track record and at least 10 years’ experience in a senior managerial position and a tertiary qualification in Business Administration / Commerce / Transport Management or equivalent.
A sound knowledge of the road-based passenger transport industry, applicable legislation, bus contracts and business management principles are important requirements. We are looking for a strong administrator with excellent communication skills, and sharp business acumen (including the ability to assist and empower small, medium and micro enterprises) that can lead the Association to set and achieve its strategic goals and objectives.
