Role Purpose

• The PHP Developer is responsible for the development major and minor web applications and components for both internal and external systems and services.
• Enhancements and defect resolution will be required on an ongoing basis. Best practices and development methods should be utilized to insure the success of the projects.
• The PHP Developer must have the ability to create web applications and components from the requirements stage, through development, testing and production deployment, using the latest standards and best practices for compatibility over a variety of mobile devices.

• Keeps abreast of the latest standards and developments in web development and programming

Expertise / Skills: Technical / Professional

• Proficiency in PHP, MySQL (essential) and HTML
• Experience in developing mobile specific web applications preferable
• Experience of object oriented programming / modular programming
• Understanding of MVC design patterns and frameworks
• Excellent understanding of server-side programming
• Must write efficient scalable code with documentation
• Commercial experience in Web Application development
• Can read code written by others
• Has experience debugging code
• Matric essential
• BSC programming degree or equivalent degree a plus but not required
• Previous work experience required
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant development experience required
• Remuneration negotiable / commensurate with qualifications and experience

Useful and Desirable Skills / Traits

• Must be a team player and possess a good attitude
• Must be self-disciplined and goal orientated
• Front-end development including jQuery
• Understanding of Ajax
• Experience of the full software development lifecycle: from requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery
• Some knowledge of the Linux command line
• Good levels of communication. Both written and verbal
• Enthusiasm and an interest in all things technology
• Good to have Object Oriented Programming Skills in PHP
• Can work on XHTML / CSS based code based on templates
• Mobile Web experience
• Apache, Memcached skills
• Experience in Distributed systems and Horizontal scalability
