Our client requires the services of a suitably qualified, well-motivated and results driven candidate to take up the role of a FDS System Engineer in Centurion, Gauteng.

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS

Major Responsibilities

• FDS System Engineer responsible for the development of FDS Systems (hardware and software) meeting (or preferably exceeding) all contracted requirements; while meeting manufacturability and manufacturing cost requirements.
• Ensuring technical integrity in the detail electronic / electrical/software design of FDS systems; while ensuring balanced design is created.
• Co-responsible with the project managers for the delivery of qualified FDS Systems to DLS internal and external customers in accordance with approved existing, updated or customised development programme SEMP’s, system engineering processes and procedures. The focus is on ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery of all contracted work in accordance with approved project plans.
• Mentoring and supervision of technicians, junior engineers and design engineers as assigned.
• Ensuring technical integrity in the detail mechanical, electro-mechanical, optical, electronic/electrical/software and HMI design of FDS systems; while ensuring balanced design is created.
• Monitoring all SOW requirements to ensure that all technical activities and outputs occur and comply with requirements.
• Generate task logic diagrams for project planning assistance to project managers where required. Assist project managers in generating/updating or reviewing WBSs and SOWs.
• Auditing and formally declaring deliverables ready for delivery to the project manager.
• Development system and product specifications (A, B & C) and the management and linking of such with higher and lower level specification requirements in DOORS. Conducting regular formal requirements coverage analysis.
• Proper identification, management and quickest possible resolution of all engineering risks and issues and management of such on the Issue Tracking system.
• Responsible for FDS system engineering process outputs: SDR’s, CDR’s, ICD’s, ATPs, QTPs, technical audit reports, ATRs, QTRs etc.).
• Ensuring all design and development documents & data other than that configured on the MRI’s and BOM’s are properly structured and captured on a secure server folder.
• Integration & Commissioning of FDS Systems with other sub-systems; including fault-finding and corrective action implementation.
• Responsible for the test, evaluation and qualification management of FDS Systems.
• Customer interactions, presentations and reviews; where required.
• Apply all applicable DLS policies, procedures and work instructions to the best of your ability.
• Actively contributing in creating a culture of System Engineering and Design Engineering excellence in the FDS engineering team.
• Marketing and Business Development Support where required.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

• B Eng. (or higher) Degree or equivalent technical qualification, with at least 8 years of applicable experiential background.
• Extensive System Engineering experience, knowledge and the application thereof, with a proven track record.
• Technical development and engineering competencies and experience, knowledge and applications in Fire Directing Systems and Indirect Fire Control Systems.
• Design and development skills in the field of Electronic Engineering, Hardware and Software Development and Power Distribution, with a proven track record.
• Detailed understanding of DO178B software development process
• System integration, functional testing, fault finding and commissioning.
• System qualification, verification and validation.
• Project management and People management skills
• Excellent Working knowledge of Windows, Linux and VxWorks operating system and other real-time operating system environments; as well as VME architecture.
• Computer literate: MS Office Suite of Applications, DOORS and other applicable engineering software required to execute the job e.g. Enterprise Architecture, Visio, MATLAB, LabView etc.
