Position: Accounting Manager (Financial).

Our client an experienced infrastructure development company based in Africa, looking to employ an Accounting Manager in Sandton, Johannesburg. They primarily focused on large-scale power generation and oil and gas infrastructure projects.

Only South African candidates will be considered. This is an Affirmative Action Position. Preference will be given to female candidates.

Salary around R750,000 per annum, according to qualifications and experience.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Would have reported into and worked with a General Manager: Finance, Head of Finance, CFO, Finance Director etc. before.
• Must have a track record of leading, mentoring and guiding a finance team and would have worked well as part of a team.
• Group accounting experience essential.
• Prepare consolidation entries for the group on a monthly basis (elimination of intercos)
• Occasional international travel from time to time.

SUMMARY: Manage, monitor and evaluate all the day-to-day accounting activities for the Group. Will develop and implement systems for collecting, analysing, verifying and reporting financial information. These duties are accomplished personally or through the support of the Financial Accountant and Financial Assistant – Junior Bookkeeper who reports into the Accounting Manager. The position of Accounting Manager will report into the Chief Financial Officer.

REQUIREMENTS:
• B Com (Hons) Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Completed Articles.
• 10+ years’ experience in the field of Finance/Accounting with at least 4 years’ being in a managing a team.
• Group accounting experience is essential for this role – construction experience advantageous.
• Experience in working in a project environment would be advantageous.
• Good working knowledge of accounting packages (Pastel/Pastel Evolution).
• Coaching/Mentoring skills.
• Good communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
• Analytical Thinking & Attention to detail. High degree of Accuracy.
• Results orientated. Prioritising, Flexible and Adaptable.
• Computer Literacy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare consolidation entries for the group on a monthly basis (elimination of intercos essentially)
• Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department for the Group,
• Ensure that the Chart of Account is properly maintained; create the relevant new accounts where appropriate,
• Process the month and year-end for the individual companies in the Group and for the Group itself,
• Process all Journal Entries under the guidance of the CFO ; conduct, with the team, accurate accounting of transactions for the company and its affiliates in a timely fashion
• Process the accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger accruals on a timely basis,
• Ensure that conversion of foreign exchange transactions and of foreign exchange ledgers are properly processed,
• Participate in the budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variances analysis for the companies in the Group, by providing actuals on a timely basis and work with the CFO and project managers to prepare forward looking files
• Process the capital assets, reconciliations, check payment runs, fixed asset activity and debt activity for companies in the Group,
• Monitor and analyse accounting data for the companies in the Group,
• Produce financial reports and statements amongst other reports for the Group, including but not limited to balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, project cost statements,
• Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles in accordance with legislation and in partnership with the CFO,
• Work with the CFO to finalise Annual Financial Statements prior to audit,
• Coordinate and complete annual audit in conjunction with Auditing firms used by the Group, involving the CFO as and when required,
• Provide recommendations for improvement in the accounting, treasury and other relevant functions,
• Improve systems and procedures as well as initiate corrective actions,
• Assign projects/tasks whilst directing staff to ensure compliance and accuracy of work,
• Meet financial accounting objectives as set by the CFO,
• Actively participate and lead weekly finance meeting for the effective cross-pollination of ideas and tracking of progress on accounting and finance projects,
• Manage and mentor the Financial Accountant and the Financial Assistant – Bookkeeper,
• Manage day to day relationship with banks and ensure that bank accounts are funded adequately,
• Work with the Tax Manager and CFO to ensure that monthly tax returns are submitted timeously and that all tax liabilities are recorded and settled as and when required,
• Get involved on a case by case basis alongside the Chief Financial Officer on special finance projects,
• Participate in any other relevant financial activities as may be necessary.
