Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng

Description: A company in the energy sector requires a Financial Advisor. Key duties will include: Prepare and be responsible for financial models, financial analysis, valuation and risk analysis of new projects. Assist with preparation of financing plans, selection of funding sources/banks, the structuring and execution of project financing. Responsible for non-project related AIFA activities (e.g. annual impairment tests, lookbacks, etc). The geographical coverage is both for South Africa and Sub-Saharan African countries. However, flexibility might be required to also support activities in other sub-regions of SAMEA. The Financial Advisor will report to a Senior Financial Advisor.

Requirements: Finance/Economics based degree or a professional qualification such as CFA, CIMA, ACA or ACCA. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (preferably within a sponsor-side AIFA/project finance team or within a bank, financial advisory firm and/or accounting/fiscal advisory firm). Experience in planning and managing processes. Proven experience in financial modelling and up-to-date proficiency in excel (including writing basic Macros) is essential to the role. Demonstrable prior experience of project financing for power projects in RSA (e.g. having worked on a REIPPP bid and/or financing) or in any other country in Africa would be a valuable experience for the role. Good understanding of the IPP model beneficial. Fluency in English is required (knowledge of any African language or French would be a significant advantage).

Additional Requirements: Strong and proven analytical skills, including proficient financial modelling. Commercial acumen with good understanding of accounting topics and tax structures. Planning ability and capacity to deliver on plans and to work independently. Leadership qualities advantageous, strong self-motivation essential. Able and willing to learn on the job and to share experiences across the team. Ability to multitask and to work effectively under pressure. Strong communication skills (including adequate knowledge of PowerPoint). Behavioural capabilities: problem solving, strong interpersonal skills, common sense and sense of humour. Frequent travel to other countries within Sub-Saharan Africa and SAMEA HQ (Dubai) required. Available to travel outside region (e.g. Paris, London).
