Purpose of role:
To manage “entity” Financial Control

Educational Requirements
• B Comm Honours
• CA qualification preferable

Experience
• 3-4 years commercial experience, preferably in the financial services industry
• Includes 2-3 years management experience.
• Pastel experience preferable

Key performance areas:
• Direct budget and cost controls, financial analysis and accounting practices and reports
• Analyse and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance
• Translate department’s managerial revenue, expense and capital investment, operating income, cash flow and net income plans from all Departments into the financial model
• Assess financial components (e.g. revenue, expense, capital cash flow, operating income and net income) of all Departments. Identify financial impact on overall profit, and communicate risks and recommendations to executive management for each Department
• Ensure all month-end closure activities are carried out timeously and correctly. Includes ensuring that the correct procedures are followed, and that the correct modules are closed on the system
• Manage the company’s fixed assets. Ensure network and non-network assets are loaded onto the system correctly, and that they are depreciated correctly. Involves developing a system and procedures to track assets (e.g. how to count assets, log assets and record them in the system)
• Sign off all trial balance and financial accounts before these are audited
• Manage staff of the Financial Control Section:
• Assign, monitor and coordinate assignments (plan and organise work)
• Provide technical, procedural and policy guidance
• Recruit and hire staff for the Section
• Evaluate performance of professional staff (conduct performance appraisals)
• Handle labour relations issues (e.g. disciplinary hearings)
• Career development for direct reports (counselling, coaching, identify KPA’s, career planning, goal setting)
• Determine training needs and identify training courses for direct reports
• Ensure monthly payments are made timeously. Includes ensuring payments are made to suppliers based on requisitions.
• Ensure salaries are paid to staff timeously
• Ensure the company is insured for the right value. Manage any insurance claims that need to be made
• Approve all Property Company reports
• Perform any other related duties as requested
