Summary of Position:
The Financial Manager is responsible for the day to day finance operations of the hotel as well as the development of medium and long term strategy. Constant inter-departmental analysis is a requirement and a firm grasp of hotel accounting procedures as well as national and international standards. The FM oversees a department of 9 staff and has an active role working with the HR Manager. The Financial Manager is a member of the Executive Committee and represents the hotel operations monthly at board meetings. Ultimately, the Financial Manager is required to be a proactive member of the management team developing and implementing robust procedures and adding value at an operational and board level.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Hotel Operations
Control of all hotel bank accounts ensuring cash surplus is managed to maximise interest
Sign-off on all hotel payments and ensure comprehensive knowledge of suppliers, pricing and where possible negotiate better price
Management of all debtor’s and creditor’s accounts ensuring the accounts are in line with hotel policies
Managing a daily accounts meeting to ensure the team are fully updated with requirements and all targets and deadlines are met
Management and control of all hotel contracts, including the organising the records, negotiating rate and timing and ensuring the hotel achieves best possible value for money from all partners
The FM has primary interactions with the hotel owners and ensures monthly distributions are completed accurately and timeously
Management of month end including overseeing stock counts, ensuring all invoices are submitted timeously, management of monthly financial statements and reporting to the Hotel Management on results in general. The FM will work with the Executive to ensure the deadlines for monthly accounts are adhered to.
The FM is largely responsible for reporting in the monthly Directors Pack which reflects the hotels performance for the month and year to date.
The FM is responsible for monitoring owner accounts including usage, pay-outs, rates, levies and statement management.
Payment of all salaries in conjunction with payroll and HR
Management of all statutory payments and management of the business accounts in line with best accounting procedures to maximise hotel profitability
Complete analysis of hotel’s performance monthly across a variety of metrics including but not limited to rates, revenues, occupancies, profits
Implement comprehensive asset management systems
Control of all provisional accounts
Completions of all annual audit in line with hotels set standards and managing the hotels accountant and the auditors who are on site for approximately 2 weeks
Complete monthly one-on-one’s with the finance team and twice annual appraisals whilst ensuring staff development
Development and management of hotels annual budgets in line with the hotels vision
Ensure effective control measures are in place across the board
2. Board, owners and reporting
The FM reports monthly to board members on the Financial Statements including detailed analysis with the hotel management team
The FM sits monthly in the operations board meeting and reports in conjunction with the hotel operator on financial results for the month, the year and the forecasts
Development and management of company policies as approved by the board
Management of all monthly and annual owners reporting
3. Staff Management and adhoc
To provide effective leadership through professional man-management and encouragement of all subordinates.
To carry out regular, meaningful performance appraisals conducted in such a manner that effective, open, two-way communication is maintained. To follow up and ensure that the agreed action and developmental plans identified at these appraisals are being effected.
To ensure all staff are fully cognisant of the companies’ rules and regulations and that they are being upheld at all times.
To ensure that training is implemented and maintained according to hotel policies.
To act as chairperson in company HR cases
To support management with IR related situations
Any reasonable task as requested by the Executive, Board and Owners

Required Qualifications and Skills:
Hotel experience especially in sectional title establishment would be beneficial
BCom or alternative financial related tertiary qualification
10 years’ experience in financial services and 3-5 years in a management role
Exceptional IT / Excel analytical ability
An understanding of ACCPAC would be beneficial
The Hotel runs Opera and Micros PMS and an understanding of these systems would be beneficial
The Hotel is a sectional title property and previous experience in sectional title businesses would be beneficial to candidates
To a degree, the FM needs to ensure board statutory documentation is completed and as such an understanding of secretarial work would be beneficial
Working Conditions:
The standard work week applies. As the FM is a vital position the manager should be available telephonically outside of work in emergency cases and/or to achieve deadlines.
Team work is of the utmost importance and you must assist your team members and other departments when required.
Due to the nature of the Hospitality Industry, you may be required for situations that arise that need a senior manager’s attention.
