ROLE: The fire engineer will serve as a technical authority on fire prevention, fire protection and life safety engineering issues for internal and external clients. The fire protection engineer will provide expert advice and perform highly advanced complex reviews of plans and specifications for fire protections planning, fire suppression, fire detection, life safety analysis and hazard analysis to ensure that all new construction, renovation and improvements meet fire and life safety code provisions. The fire engineer will serve as a technical consultant in fire protection and prevention engineering; will provide advice and guidance to architects, engineers and other construction personnel to ensure the most up-to-date fire prevention concepts and practice are incorporated into the design, construction and renovation of facilities. Experience in the planning, design and fire project management of different occupancy types shall be a key factor in personnel selection. Experience in dealing with the local authority having jurisdiction on planning is also necessary. RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Prepare and write reports and develop detailed drawings for fire prevention and protection issues for new building projects and existing building upgrades. 2. Advise architects, builder and other construction personnel on fire prevention equipment and techniques, and on fire code and standard interpretation and compliance. 3. Consult with authorities to discuss safety regulations and to recommend changes as necessary for projects. 4. Design and construction monitoring if fire protection, fire detection and gas fire suppression systems. 5. Compile tender documents and specifications documents. 6. Inspect buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in area’s such as fire water supplies, exit locations, and construction materials in relation to statutory compliance. 7. Compile Rational Fire Designs for submission to local authority for approval. 8. Good knowledge on local and international Fire Safety Codes (i.e. SANS, BS, EN NFPA and IFC) will be required REQUIREMENTS: a). B.SC or B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering b). 3 + years experience in Fire Engineering c). Must be professionally registered d). Must have design experience PACKAGE: Negotiable
