PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Mechanically maintain plant and equipment to ensure maximum availability and throughput for feed production

QUALIFICATIONS: Passed a recognised electrician trade test. Training in feed milling equipment maintenance and utilization would be an advantage.

EXPERIENCE:At least 3 years post qualification hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in a feed mill.

Results Required:

1. Scheduled plant and equipment maintenance
a) Plan scheduled maintenance from allocated job cards to draw the required spares and equipment
b) Prepare work and perform scheduled maintenance on plant and equipment either in-situ or in the workshop
c) Clean area when work is completed
d) Update job cards when complete and present to Senior Fitter for signing off
e) Ensure that all maintenance work is of an acceptable standard and report reworks
f) Ensure that installation work is of an acceptable standard and safely performed

2. Unplanned and immediate work
a) Ensure that allocated job cards are timeously attended to
b) Report complete jobs to Senior Fitter and ensure area is clean
c) Ensure that breakdowns are immediately attended to, including after-hours call-outs.
d) Follow up causes breakdowns and suggest measures to prevent re-occurrence

3. Workshop areas
a) Keep mechanical workshop area clean and tidy and ensure the following:
i. No loose equipment lying around
ii. Workbenches are cleaned and floors swept before knocking off
iii. Broken spares and equipment are disposed of in waste bins and skips
b) Ensure workshop equipment is maintained in good working order
c) Keep the waste area tidy

4. Projects
a) Assist Senior Fitter on minor projects, repairs and refurbishment work
b) Complete job cards and ensure work is to acceptable standards
c) Report daily on progress made

5. Safety, Health and Environment and legal compliance
a) Immediately stop and report any dangerous acts/conditions
b) Wear and use the required PPE, including safety harnesses
c) Keep hand and portable tools clean and safe to operate
d) Complete inspection registers
e) Assume the responsibilities delegated by the Section 16(2) Appointee in terms of the OHSAct
f) Adhere to the following internal safety systems:
i. Lock out tag out system (LOTTO)
ii. Hot work permits
iii. Confined spaces entry permits
iv. Elevated work permits
g) Assist Safety Representatives with their monthly audits in the works areas

6. General
a) Do standby as per roster
b) Adhere to all company policies and procedures relating to work, working conditions, discipline, SHE, BRC and administration
c) Report accurately and timeously on any problems that may occur during the course of carrying out normal duties to a person in authority for further action
d) Carry out any other reasonable instruction that Management might issue
