Requirements:
• Grade 12 (essential)
• Fitter Trade Test
• NQF 6 will be an advantage
• Wireman’s License will be an advantage
• 3 years heavy industrial fitting and fault finding experience
• Exposure to mild steel manufacturing industry
• Computer Literate
• Drivers License
• A mechanically astute individual who is good with hands and observant
• Good knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
• Knowledge of manufacturing principles, processes and concepts
• Understanding of health and safety within a manufacturing environment
• Ability to work independently and in a team as well as under pressure
• Ability to coordinate projects
• Prepared to work overtime and be on standby, call outs, weekends whenever required
• Ability to do machining will be an advantage
• Physically fit and able to work in a demanding environment
• Boiler, steam, pump effluent & electrical experience

Duties:
• Examined detailed drawings or specifications to find out job, material and equipment requirements
• Set-up and adjust metalworking machines and equipment
• Clean and lubricate machines
• Set-up and operate hand and machine tools, welding equipment or computer numerically controlled machines (CNC)
• Operate machine to produce parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, planning, shaping, slotting, grinding or drilling metal stock or components
• Fit and assemble metal parts, tools including welding or brazing parts
• Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
• Dismantle faulty tools and equipment / machinery and repair defective parts
• Lay out parts dimensions on worktable, using square, chalk line and soapstone
• Tack-welds scrap metal to outline to provide jig for assembly
• Position parts in jig and files, chisels and grind parts as indicated to fit them together
• Heat parts with acetylene torch and bend them in vise on anvil or around stakes mounted in table
• Tack-welds fitted parts together
• Periodically compare assembly dimensions to blueprint specifications using square, rule and callipers
• Anneal parts with acetylene torch to remove stresses of welding
• Fasten parts together with acetylene torch and brazing rod
• Inspect, maintain (services) and do troubleshooting
