Main Objectives:

1. Execute the technical aspects of a Live Event within his/her field of expertise for IVTM Conference and Event Technology | Gauteng according to top production standards.
2. Carry out the preparation, installation, operation and dis-assembly of equipment and associated activities safely, according to the South African Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Gearhouse standard practice, under the supervision of the Senior Technician/Crewboss or Project Manager.
3. Maintain a thorough understanding of Health and Safety Practices within the Live Event Industry.

Responsibilities:

PRODUCTION
• Check the equipment lists against technical information, ensuring that the list is comprehensive and accurate.
• Ensure that he/she is in possession of a Job Card for the relevant job.
• Familiarise him/her self with the equipment list, schedules and drawings (when available) as distributed by his/her Supervisor.
• Ensure that he/she is in possession of all information necessary to successfully complete the assigned task.
• Prepare equipment for load-in, ensuring that the preparation areas are kept clean and safe in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
• Check that the equipment being prepared corresponds to the event equipment list and that any extras have been authorised.
• Make sure that he/she has a production schedule or an understanding of call times and event dates.
• Take instruction from the Senior Technician/Project Manager or Responsible person at the venue.
• Perform duties efficiently and professionally and adhere to technical schedules.
• Conduct him/herself appropriately on-site, adhering to dress codes and safety standards.
• Setup/install standard equipment according to drawings, plans and/or instruction.
• Operate equipment for rehearsals, set-up requirements as well as the actual event.
• Identify and repair minor technical problems (troubleshoot).
• Perform routine diagnostics and repairs of equipment within his/her capabilities.
• Report damaged equipment to the Venue Technical Manager/Senior Technician, log any on-site repairs or arrange for the appropriate repairs on returning the equipment to the Workshop.
• Solve any on-site problems within the scope of his/her capabilities, bringing any other problems to the attention of the Senior Technician/Project Manager onsite.
• Oversee any trainee technicians or Stagehands assigned to the job.
• After the event, dismantle equipment, remove and return it to workshop, checking that no equipment is left behind at the venue.
• Take care of tools and company equipment/property.
• Make sure that third party equipment/property sustains no damage.

WORKSHOP
• Assist with cleaning and sorting of the general Workshop areas, if required.
• Perform preventative maintenance when necessary on hire stock.
• Participate in stock takes as required

GENERAL
• Assist management with any other duties as may be required.

Requirements:
• Matric
• Relevant industry-related qualification an advantage
• Minimum 3 years’ relevant Audio-Visual experience
• Basic knowledge of equipment, practices and safety standards including their application to live events installations.

Skills:
• AV experience
• Product knowledge
• Problem-solving (technical) skills

Basic Knowledge:
• AV and Audio knowledge within a corporate AV environment
• Client-facing and client handling experience
• Client communications skills
• Must have worked on corporate events
• MS Office proficient to enable document handling
• Basic PC troubleshooting
