General Manager: Chemicals, Bio and Materials - Pretoria


  • ·         To lead and manage the Chemicals, Bio and Materials Division of Testing to achieve financial and organizational objectives including growth of the business and co-operation with other functions of the company such as support functions

  • ·         The strategic objectives of the business are contained in the Strategic Plan of the company Group and translated into the Balanced Scorecard of the company Commercial 


  • ·         Management of all resources i.e. financial, equipment and human within the division of Testing

  • ·         Provide leadership on the overall governance, direction setting, operational structures, processes and general management of the division

  • ·         Co-operate and liaise with support functions such as Marketing, Technical Department, Human Capital in achieving the strategic objectives of the company Commercial 


  • ·         Post Graduate Degree in Engineering, Chemical, Physics and/or Biology

  • ·         8 year related experience in a related field with senior leadership experience (5 of which should be in a Senior management position)

  • ·         In depth knowledge of the Testing and Compliance business environment especially in relation to accreditation

  • ·         Understanding of product certification and the overall conformity assessment especially the role of testing is important

  • ·         Understanding of the Standards environment will be an added advantage

  • ·         Computer literate (MS Office Suite including Access, Internet and other related programmes) 


  • ·         Conveys information, thoughts, and opinions by writing or speaking in a persuasive manner appropriate to the audience

  • ·         Plans tasks and projects and defines the resources needed for achievement of deliverables

  • ·         Personally does what is required to complete the work

  • ·         Demonstrates persistence in the face of setbacks

  • ·         Frequently initiates and pursues professional relationships

  • ·         Establishes systematic performance standards, and ensures that performance issues are identified and acted upon promptly and encourages development and retention planning for top talent across own team

  • ·         Demonstrates significant knowledge across a range of (generally, related) discipline areas and/or has extensive specialist knowledge

  • ·         Selects the appropriate goals or strategies to work on from a range of competing high-potential alternatives

  • ·         Considers the impact of decisions/actions beyond the boundaries of own organization/team
