Multidisciplinary engineering and consultancy firm based in Melrose Arch (Sandton), that provides GIS services on projects, requires a GIS Specialist with 3 to 5 years’ experience. Experience of ESRI ArcGIS essential. Experience of web based technologies and GIS applications and solutions essential. Valid SA ID and relevant qualifications (preferably post grad) essential.

OVERVIEW:
Multidisciplinary engineering and consultancy firm that provides GIS services on projects, requires a person who has sound knowledge and understanding of the use of GIS applications, understanding of database management, programming and development skills integrating and utilising GIS in the engineering, planning and design process.

This position would suit either a GIS specialist with 3 to 5 years’ experience or someone who has practical and broad GIS experience.

GIS is a fast growing discipline in Southern Africa and this position provides a great opportunity to contribute to the growth and provision of GIS services on major projects. Interest and enthusiasm in GIS development will be as important as the extent of experience.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
GIS specialist with 3 to 5 years’ experience or someone who has practical and broad GIS experience
Solid academic background
A postgraduate degree in GIS is preferred
Proven academic experience of GIS
Experience of ESRI ArcGIS essential
Experience of web based technologies and GIS applications and solutions is essential
Knowledge of AutoCAD and the interface between GIS and AutoCAD will be an added advantage, particularly on linear projects
Creativity, an interest in graphical presentations/design and ability to integrate multiple software applications


ROLE:
The role will be to assist the existing global GIS resources with an expanding workload and to offer complementary and new skills to growing this area of work in the company’s South African region including offices in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. GIS is a fast growing discipline in Southern African and this position provides a great opportunity contribute to the growth and provide GIS services on major projects. Therefore interest and enthusiasm in GIS development will be as important as the extent of experience.

The company provides GIS services for multidisciplinary engineering and consultancy projects, working on multidisciplinary projects. The position is based around integrating and utilising GIS in the engineering, planning and design process.

The position requires a person who has sound knowledge and understanding of the use of GIS applications, understanding of database management, programming and development skills. The position will be based in Johannesburg, but it is expected that the successful candidate will be willing to travel to other offices and maybe work there for periods as required.
