GROUP ENGINEER (Milling)
Area: Southern KwaZulu-Natal
Salary: 1,1 – 1,5 Million per Annum

Projects and Engineering, the main focus of this role will be to manage the maintenance of plant and equipment and to significantly improve plant performance and reliability through the management and coordination of all maintenance and engineering activities within the group.
The incumbent is expected to define, implement and manage a maintenance strategy for all softwood saw mills in the group, in order to meet the business, Safety, Environmental, Financial and Operational objectives at minimum cost and in the safest manner.

Other duties include:
• Ensure that the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety act, in relation to machinery, are complied with. Specific reference to GSR, GMR, DMR, EIR, EMR, CR and PER.
• Assist with the roll-out of an Enterprise Asset Management system (Microsoft Dynamics AX).
• Develop a maintenance strategy and policy and co-ordinate implementation of the policy.
• Advise on new engineering capital requirements, perform technical and financial evaluation of designs, and manage implementation thereof
• Evaluate, analyse and report on the performance of the assets and benchmark between the different mills.
• Assist in ensuring correct and adequate spares are kept in the stores0
• Assist with the management of the saw shops.
• Maintain steam generation with wood fired boilers, water treatment plants, steam distribution systems and timber drying kilns.
• Keep abreast of technological changes and implement depending on cost effectiveness and suitability to ensure sustainable process.
• Determine training requirements and prepare training plans.
• Prepare and manage engineering as well as capital budgets, forecasts and plans.
• Liaise on a continuous basis with group environmental department and government departments to avoid negative impact on the environment and to adhere to generally accepted principles.
• Implement best operating practices in asset management.

The successful candidate must:
• Have an expert understanding of maintenance and engineering processes and strategies.
• Have at least 10 years management experience in a similar role within a manufacturing/industrial industry.
• Be familiar with computerised maintenance management systems (knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX EAM would be advantageous).
• Qualified with a relevant BSc degree in a process, technical or engineering discipline plus a Mechanical or Electrical Certificate of Competency.
• Be able to demonstrate previous success in developing and introducing maintenance techniques into industrial/manufacturing organisations.
• Have up-to-date knowledge of OH&S Act legislation.
• Have Strong planning and organisational skills.
• Have advanced computer competency and analytical skills.
• Have the ability to travel extensively within the South African borders.
