An opportunity exists for a Hardware Development Engineer in a multi-cultural environment in Pinetown. Limited international travel may be required. Fluent English (speaking + writing) is a must.
Responsibilities:
- you will be a critical part of the team developing RFID based products
- developing analogue / digital systems, including simulations, layout analysis, component selection, design for testability, + liaison to move to volume manufacture
Duties:
- be involved in the complete product development cycle, from the initial stages of the design to production transfer
- working with cutting edge RFID / mobile access technologies: BTSmart (BLE), UHF / HF + LF RFID technology; Circuit / PCB design
- co-develop + enforce hardware development standards
- develop + document hardware architecture + interfaces
- development & execution of comprehensive test plans for design validation
- formal report writing
- work together with team leads to plan + execute projects, ensure that teams have appropriate product + technical specifications, direction, + resources to deliver products effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines while ensuring that projects remain on target to meet deadlines
- participate in general laboratory + test/development duties assigned
- produce design documentation such as Bill Of Materials, assemblies, + fabrication drawings
Characteristics:
- ability to work with technical + non-technical stakeholders to get things done
- ability to effectively communicate in the English language verbally + in writing
- ability to read + interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc
Desired Skills & Experience:
- extensive analogue & digital hardware development
- debug experience
- a background in Microchip & ARM based systems is an advantage
- minimum of 5 years of demonstrated electronic design engineering experience
- proficient with RF CAD tools
- proficient with PCB design tools such as Altium / Orcad
- proficient with simulation packages such as PSpice + CST Studio
- proficient in mixed mode design
- proficient in the development, manufacturing & test processes for complex multi-layer PCB assemblies
- proficient in the use of common electronic equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, spectrum analysers, network analysers
- demonstrated ability to identify problems & to provide solutions with minimal direction
- programming languages (Python / C / C++) a plus
