An Environmental management Company requires a self motivated individual to occupy the role of a Hazardous Health and Safety Officer. You will be responsible for identifying potential hazards and provide solutions related to the daily activities of the department while managing SHEQ systems and associated SHEQ administration of the department to ensure legal compliance of all areas of operations.

KEY JOB TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and implement the client requirements at the various facilities in line with SHEQ/Health and Safety requirements
  • Understand and implement the requirements with regards to the applicable legislations of each specific country for SADC operations
  • Ensure that the Contractor Management on each site is in line with client requirements, legislative requirements and SHEQ Management Systems
  • To form part of the scope of work team for each project in order to ensure correct SHEQ requirements are implemented, trained on and met
  • Develop and implement evaluation inspections per site in line with specific requirements
  • Build, maintain and amend/update files on client sites
  • Advise project managers with regards to compliance and legislative requirements.
  • Liaise with the Regional Operations Manager regularly in line with new projects signed.
  • Keep up to date with implementation and start up dates and requirements of each project.
  • Check Audit results and facilitate compliance
  • Facilitate accident and Incident investigation process
  • Facilitate Risk assessments on each site
  • Maintenance of SHEQ/Health and Safety awareness (Toolbox talks, Job observations)
  • Safety checklists
  • Facilitate creation and revision of policies and procedures
  • To ensure that the incumbent’s own relevant work permit required to enter the country is in place
  • To ensure that the incumbent’s own relevant client entry documents are in place in order to enter the sites
  • Manage incumbent’s own travelling costs in line with business strategy
  • To ensure the SHEQ/Health and Safety requirements are adhered to within the divisions and on site operations.
  • Liaise with the relevant SHEQ officer to ensure SHEQ requirements are adhere to when work onsite is undertaken

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric
  • Environmental Science related experience (advantage)
  • SAMTRAC/COMSOC Certificate (essential)
  • HIRA (essential)
  • Knowledge of the OHS Act 
  • Knowledge of SHEQ systems/procedures and legislations
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the management and implementation of SHEQ systems and/or auditing as well as accident and incident investigation.
  • Valid drivers license and own vehicle
  • Valid passport
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Cross border travelling requiring time spent away from home when requested by SADC
