The Organisation wishes to appoint a HEAD : BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT to lead the development and implementation of a strategy to achieve financial sustainability and maintain strong brand equity for the organisation. The position will support achievement of The Organisation strategic goals through innovative resource mobilisation, funding and market research, proposal development, business expansion initiatives, partnership-building, and marketing organisational offerings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- In consultation with the CEO and ExCo, lead business development strategy to generate sufficient funds to drive implementation of The Organisation's strategic plan.
- Set and pursue annual targets for resource mobilisation to enhance long-term financial sustainability.
- Ensure that sufficient funding opportunities are identified with good lead times for proposal development.
- Support the Business Development team and provide strategic guidance to proposal development activities to grow and diversify restricted and unrestricted funding, ensuring adequate resources are in place for the production of high quality proposals in collaboration with relevant technical/programme staff.
- Support seamless transition from proposal development to implementation through effective management of post-award processes and transition of projects to project contracts and grants management and project implementation teams.
- Identify new business opportunities and sources of donor support, lead organisational activities to explore opportunities for diversification of The - Organisation's funding base and grow non-grant revenue.
- Build strategic relationships with funders, civil society, government and private sector partners to leverage resource mobilisation.
- Assist CEO in the development and implementation of a regional growth strategy with clear business and operational plans.
- Identify and pursue regional opportunities, through effective relationship-building, marketing of The Organisation's value proposition, and establishment of strategic partnerships
- In consultation with the CEO and ExCo lead The Organisation's strategy to market and favourably position of The Organisation's products and capabilities for stronger brand equity
- Review and update The Organisation's marketing strategy to be in line with The Organisation's mission, to keep pace with current and emerging health sector trends and opportunities.
- Ensure regular internal communication of mission-focused information to enhance brand affinity among staff.
- Support maintenance of positive relationships with stakeholders, funders and partners through effective networking and relationship-building.
- Support the CEO, Programmes and Research functions' to ensure that The Organisation's knowledge outputs are effectively disseminated.
- Support the development and implementation of a strategy for knowledge management for past, present and future projects.
- Represent The Organisation as required at local, national and international fora.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum of Master's degree, or equivalent, in public health, development studies, social
sciences, business administration or other relevant discipline.
- English language proficiency.
- 10 years relevant experience in non-profit organisation management, at least five of which should include documented experience at senior management level in a business development function.
- Experience of resource mobilisation in the NGO-sector with a strong track record of successful leadership of proposal development for major donor-funded grants in the health sector and related sectors.
- Knowledge of donor funding priorities and requirements both nationally and internationally.
- Experience of working in the non-governmental and governmental public health sector in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
- Thought leader with a good knowledge of health sector development challenges and opportunities in South Africa and Southern Africa.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to think and act strategically.
- Ability to build and lead teams, manage people in a participative and empowering way and to act as a mentor.
- Strong proposal development, writing and project management skills.
- Skilled at managing collaborations with multiple teams and partners as well as working independently and consultatively but decisively.
- Commitment to equity and cultural diversity.
- Dynamic personality, good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to build relationships with a diverse range of partners and to engage at various levels in the public and private sectors.
- Willingness to travel.
- Experience of collaboration or working with donor organisations.
- Research skills would be an added advantage.
