To assist in defining risk appetite for market risk in the companies Book both domestically and in foreign subsidiaries and Branches, as well as involvement in business processes to identify, measure, manage and report on the risk of the book.
Detailed Description
Job Requirements
• Independent oversight for market risk within the companies book, this includes oversight on principles for interest rate risk and foreign exchange risk in the book of both the South African operations and foreign subsidiaries and branches.
• Partnering with business to address weaknesses in the identification, measurement, management and monitoring of market risk in the book.
• Oversee and challenge business strategies to manage and appropriateness of risk measures
• Oversight for ALM modelling process impacting interest rate risk in the book.
• Ownership for relevant regulatory returns.
• Understand the impact on the financial position and performance of the group and identify, define and develop appropriate risk metrics.
• Ensure company is compliant with applicable risk limit and appetite levels.
• Participation in group wide stress testing and economic capital processes.
• Ensure appropriate group frameworks and mandates in place.
• Ensure appropriate internal controls to address operational risk within the team
• Participate in due diligence as to requirements from a regulatory and in-country perspective and carry out assessments on entities
• Provide governance oversight to management committees
• Engage with the non-executive Directors of the Group risk committees.
• Initiate strategic dialogue to build professional working relationships with all stakeholders, displaying excellent abilities to listen, advise, influence, negotiate and present at all levels
• Lead and facilitate difficult conflict situations into consensual agreements
• Integrate opinions and information provided by various sources to make strategic decisions
• Adapt communication styles to meet the needs of different audiences
• Find opportunities to leverage relationships and promote knowledge sharing, ideas and insights
• Represent the organisation on relevant bodies
• Team leadership and management
Additional Details
• Minimum Postgraduate Degree in Finance/Economics/Maths/Statistics/Financial Risk Management/Engineering; Professional qualification e.g. CFA, FRM, Actuarial Science, CA(SA), Masters or equivalent advantageous
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in the environment; Experience with Treasury/ALCO/BSM functions, systems, controls and financial markets essential; Relevant international working experience advantageous
