Our client specialises in exploration mining. Their Head Office is based in Pretoria, but they operate on sites in various African countries. They currently have a vacancy for an experienced Head of HR to ensure effectiveness in the following areas: IR, Performance Management, Recruitment, HR Policies, OTD, Remuneration, HR Legislation.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

LEGISLATION:

Comply with local legislation, ensure policies agree to local legislation

Complete and file all documentation in terms of local employee, HR, Equity, BBBEE and skills legislation

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

Ensure that HR policies are developed, documented, implemented, maintained and in line with the latest legislative requirements

Co-ordination and roll out of existing and new company policies to all sites

Develop and maintain a grading and industry benchmarking systems

RECRUITMENT

Ensure job descriptions are valid

Get approval to recruit

Recruit and interview

Ensuring contracts are prepared for candidates

Develop and maintain good relationships with employment agencies and negotiating contracts accordingly

TERMINATIONS/INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS:

Ensure resignations and termination letters are recorded and filed

Conduct exit interviews

Resolve all CCMA cases

Providing high level industrial relations support and advisory services including the handling of cases referred to the CCMA

PEOPLE WELLNESS:

Develop, monitor and maintain employee wellness programs

Facilitate relationships with outside suppliers to provide employee services

Develop good rapport amongst employees

Identify country specific risk for people

Ensure PPE is issued, recorded and signed for

Issue attendance report

TRAVEL MANAGEMENT:

Travel management for employees according to company policies, including travel  medical insurance

Providing research and advisory service to management regarding countries and environmental risks of sites whereby employees are to be located

Travel to sites as and when required

Develop, co-ordinate and update the chess board

Document all employees transfers and get approval prior to employee leaving

Ensure all passports copies and visa’s are valid on file

Maintain a register of days by employee for services rendered outside RSA

Arrange visa, work permits and air tickets

Ensure all transport arrangements from office to site and back are properly arranged and communicated

PAYROLL/REMUNERATION:

Ensure all documents are approved prior to processing

Oversee remuneration, recognition and benefits practices

Ensure all month end payroll reports are filed

REPORTING:

Develop, prepare and issue monthly HR report by last day of the month

Ensure clean audit report at year end is received

Recommend procedures to reduce absenteeism and staff turnover

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:

Performance management

Analysis of training and development needs of employees on site

Guiding and mentoring managers and HR staff on sound HR practices and principles

INCLUDING:

Providing overall strategic leadership of the HR function, developing and implementing an HR plan aligned with organisational objectives.

Interacting with Executive Directors/Senior Managers to understand their requirements with respect to service delivery.

Monitoring and evaluating Human Resources systems e.g. VIP HR system

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Knowledge

Extensive experience in Human Resources Management

Possess a good understanding in South African labour law

Able to work alone on a broad variety of projects and use own initiative in reaching goals

Good understanding of people management processes

Proven track record in delivering HR support

Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, confidentiality and able to adapt to changing needs and situations

Ability to work in a high paced performance driven environment

Medium proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.

Able to deliver effective results, meet tight deadlines and targets

Management skills

Attention to detail

Good communication and team building skills

Drive, initiative and flexibility

Strong level of influence and negotiation skills

Knowledge of HR systems

Qualifications

Degree in Human Resources or Business from an accredited institution.
