AA20212 - A large Busy 5* Game Lodge situated in Mpumalanga seeks a Head Ranger with the following qualifications: Grade 12 or equivalent. Valid First Aid Certificate. Valid PDP (public drivers permit).Duties will include the following: You will be responsible for a growing team of rangers and trackers. You will need to implement high standards of guiding within the department and mentor staff to attain these levels. System implementation and maintaining of administration duties for the ranger department and workshop. Allocation of all guests to rangers for game drives. Participating and evaluating rangers on game drives. As head ranger you will need to train and motivate a passionate team who are eager to learn and grow. All administration of the department will be your responsibility. HR functions within the department will managed by yourself with the assistance of the general manager. Maintaining operational equipment, stock counts and ordering of fuel and operational equipment will be managed by you. Assisting the workshop in ordering vehicle maintenance items. You will be responsible for the training and mentoring and motivation of all rangers and trackers to obtain and exceed high levels of service to international guests. You will need to oversee the workshop with the workshop assistants for all vehicle requirements and service schedules. You will be required to maintain vehicle service and fuel records. You will need to lead and manager the safari department in a professional, friendly and organised manner. You will be also be required to take guests on game drive. You will be responsible for all guest allocated to you on game drive. Game drives are done on 8000 hectors twice daily. Bush walks and rock art excursions are offered to guests. It will be your responsibility to showcase the Game Reserve in the all aspects of nature during these games drive and impasse your knowledge of the flora and fauna onto guests when conducting these drives in a safe and professional and friendly manner. You will be required to ensure that each guest’s expectations are met on drive as much as possible and in your control. You will be required to host guests in a warm, friendly, safe and professional manner during game drive, drink stops, walks and meals. To ensure that and that all equipment in the field department allocated to you is in a good working condition. You will also be required to assist in field projects and social media for the lodge capturing images on game drive. We will be required to meet guests on arrival and assist in their hosting until their departure. The candidate must have the following skills: A good general knowledge and understanding of fauna and flora in Southern Africa and Mpumalanga. Bird identification and knowledge of Southern African bird species. General knowledge of worldly events and cultures. General Knowledge of South Africa, including history, cultures and events. HR and labour laws. Administration of a ranger team. Game drive allocations. Vehicle service scheduling and inspections. Ordering of operational equipment. Stock takes of operational equipment and fuel. Microsoft Office. Implementation and maintaining high standard of service delivery. Previous work experience of at least 1 years in as a head ranger / mentor or assistant head ranger in a Big Five Reserve. Work experience of at least 3 years in a lodge environment. Guiding international guests in a Big Five Reserve or National Park in a lodge environment. Must have been in a management position for at least a year. Stock taking of operational equipment. Overseeing of lodge vehicle fleet maintenance and workshop. Mentoring ranger and tracker teams. Managing as a head of department.
