Purpose of the Job:

This post heads the Reactor Support (RS) Section within the Reactor Engineering Group at SAFARI-1. RS is responsible for specialized technical support to SAFARI-1 during the implementation and commissioning of projects, and also for support in the design, development, and manufacturing of specialized tools and equipment.

Key Performance Areas:

Line management responsibilities include appropriate delegation of work and responsibilities, the conduct performance assessments, training and development of personnel, compile and managing an operational and capital budget for the section;

Technical responsibilities include the coordination of RS’s diverse capabilities as well as hands-on inputs to:

- Provide specialist technical support to Reactor Operations, Engineering, Maintenance and other groups;
- Provide a competent mechanical, instrumentation and electronic development capability for SAFARI-1-specific applications;
- Provide a competent development-orientated machining and assembly capability;
- Manage special components and materials inventories;
- Manage external manufacturing and procurement for specialised equipment;
- Provide commissioning and implementation support to a variety of SAFARI-1 projects;
- Generate as-built documentation and commissioning procedures and reports;
- Provide specialised support on newly commissioned nuclear instruments;
- Manage and maintain the industrial network and SCADA systems; and
- Provide specialised training to personnel on unique aspects of SAFARI-1 equipment, operations and maintenance.

Person Profile:

Required professional/technical skills include:

- Line Management.
- Knowledge of Reactor Operations.
- Knowledge of reactor facility environments, systems, system interactions and work methods.
- Basic knowledge of either mechanical or instrumentation design, or both.
- Commissioning procedures in nuclear environment.
- Project management, conduct and methods.

Qualifications and Experience:

At least a 3 year (Nat Dip or B. Degree) tertiary qualification in a relevant technical field (nuclear, radiation, mechanical, electronic) with 7 years relevant experience on an operational plant, preferably in a radiation environment;

OR

At least 10 years relevant Technical / Engineering experience in a nuclear environment.

In both cases, competencies and a track record in some or all of the technical key performance areas listed above will be favorably considered.
