Job Purpose
Qualified Officer responsible for health, safety and environment of the manufacturing plant.
Ensuring legislative compliance and standards to health and safety of its employees and the environment. Strong understanding of FMCG, and ISO standards and hazardous applications.

Main Activities
? Provide efficient health and safety support services
? Prepare health and safety strategies and developing internal policy
? Carry out assessments and identify how risks could be reduced
? Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
? Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
? Plan practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, to promote health and safety issues and risks
? Attend safety committee meetings
? Negotiate with managers and operators to try and eliminate conflict between production and safety considerations
? Make changes to working practices to make sure that they are safe and comply with legislation
? Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
? Keep records of inspections findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
? Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety legislation and any developments that affect the employer’s industry
? Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure the employer is compliant with mandatory regulations
? Produce reports for management reports, newsletters and bulletins
? Carry out accident investigations on-site and produce subsequent reports and recommendations
? Advise on a range of specialist areas e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding of machinery and occupational diseases.

Qualifications
? National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent
? Extensive Occupational Health and Safety Act
? SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Legal Compliance Assessments, Construction Regulations and other
NOSA or similar training
? Understanding and use of HIRA methodology

Experience and Skills
? At least 5 years industry related experience of which either is food or chemical manufacturing environment
? Thorough knowledge of relevant local safety, security and environmental legislation
? OHSACT
? COID ACT
? Environmental conservation Act
? Thorough knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
? Working knowledge of safety systems
? Ability to implement and administrative of safety systems
