This role provides direction, support and ensures that a safe and ergonomically correct work environment is provided for employees. The EHS Specialist will develop, monitor and evaluate health, environmental, safety, and security programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations; provide specialized technical expertise in radioactive waste, biological and chemical safety, occupational safety and hygiene, environmental programs and ergonomics. Responsibilities :
• Plan, develop, monitor and evaluate occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and laws.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and evaluations of work environments to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure the environmental safety program and supervise the investigations of incidents and exposures.
• Responsible for the creation of HES related reports to regulatory agencies including, but not limited to, EPA Tier II, SPCC, DNR, Hazardous waste disposal, etc.
• Primary contact with insurance carrier and coordinates EHS programs with insurance carrier requirements.
• Ensure incident investigations are completed, follow-up action taken, and learning’s shared.
• Coordinate and facilitate training programs, including, but not limited to, biological safety and security, occupational safety, environmental programs, hazardous waste and ergonomics.
• Train employees in Hazard Communication, Chemical Hygiene, Blood borne Pathogen, Biological Safety, Ergonomics, Office Safety, and other areas as required by local, state and federal regulations and internal processes.
• Oversee activities associated with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory audits related to safety, health, environments, and security.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on hazardous materials used in the workplace. Generate and update SDS on products produced on this site as needed.
• Create, implement and maintain standard operating procedures related to the HSE function.
• Responsible for Corporate Workers Compensation including coordinating employee medical health screening and reporting.
• Provide key support in development and monitoring of the HSE budget and works to implement cost-effective solutions.

Candidate Profile :
• Bachelor of Science degree and/5-7 years’ experience as a HSE officer in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA and EPA.
• A working knowledge of biology and chemistry is also preferred to successfully handle hazardous waste, biological hazards and infectious agents.
• Experience in developing and conducting employee safety training programs. First Aid / CPR training required.
• Must be able to operate and train on forklifts, respirator fit testing, lockout/tag out, confined spaces, and other required programs.
• Ability to deal with multiple priorities, self-starter who works well with minimal supervision.
• Strong ability to manage time, makes quality decisions, manages and measure work.
• Basic computer skills that include knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Good organizing, planning, and presentation skills.
• Good interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact one on one or in a group.
