A vacancy exists in the Botswana Office for a suitably qualified and experienced Inspector of Works to commence duties in the Transport Sector as soon as possible

 Main Responsibilities

 ·         Implement inspection and test plans for specific sections of the works:

-   Verify the correct quantity of cement in stabilization including location and dimensions

-   Record rates of application of distributors together with lengths and widths sprayed

-   Record milling of material – location- depths widths and length

• ·         Monitor the construction methods including the plant and equipment used – note actual working hours


• ·         Monitor daily progress and compile daily reports on the works


• ·         Assist in the compilation of As Built Drawings


• ·         Checking Contractor’s payment certificate and verifying the calculations and claimed quantities


• ·         Advising the contractor about certain aspects of the work


• ·         Liaising and supervising contractor`s staff


• ·         Becoming familiar with relevant drawings and written instructions, checking them and using them as a reference when inspecting the work


• ·         Making visual inspections


• ·         Taking measurements and samples on site to ensure that the work and materials meet the specifications and quality standards


• ·         Ensuring that the work complies with legal requirements

 Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

• ·         A certificate /diploma/ in Buildings/ Civil Engineering


• ·         Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction supervision of building works with a sound working knowledge of building practice


• ·         Knowledge of Botswana health and safety regulations and working requirements on building sites


• ·         Construction experience as a Building Contractor (in a supervisory or trade position) will be advantageous


• ·         Botswana citizen or work permit in Botswana is preferable

 Behavioural Competencies 

• ·         Good communication skills in English


• ·         Knowledge of Setswana will be an advantage


• ·         Ability to work under pressure


• ·         Ability to work well within a team and independently make decisions relating to the quality of work


• ·         Willingness to work site hours in Maun Botswana
