Internal Legal Compliance Manager, Port Elizabeth - Ref: 1050501-25

Our client currently has an opportunity for an Internal Legal Compliance Manager to develop and manage the company’s sustainability implementation framework. The successful incumbent will be responsible for continuous relationship building with relevant stakeholders to stay ahead of potential changes in the external environment, to identify risks and opportunities and to enhance the company’s positioning, influence and reputation both internally and externally.

You will be required to hold a relevant tertiary qualification together with 8 years’ working experience as a practicing Lawyer.

Job Description

Contract Management
Preparation, review and negotiation of bilateral and multilateral contracts of any kind; in particular commercial contracts, i.e. procurement, service and supply.
Identifying possible legal risks associated with contracts.
Ensure compliance of contracts with corporate regulations.
Centralising of all contracts.

Legal Advice
Provide legal advice on organizational issues, in particular incorporation and dissolution of companies, organizing the maintenance of constitutional and on-going related documents in compliance with applicable law.
Advise on or initiate structural changes caused by economic considerations or mandatory for statutory reasons on any matters of legal relevance raised by senior management or other officers and employees.

Risk Identification
Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risks.
Develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in future in consultation with Corporate Compliance Department.

Reports
Provides reports on a regular basis and, as directed or requested, keep senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
Management of external counsel.

Training
Internal training of legal issues.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Educational Requirements
Relevant tertiary qualification

Professional Requirements
8 years’ relevant experience and a practicing Lawyer.
Project management experience will be an advantage.
Knowledge and expertise in all aspects of SA commercial & company law.
Knowledge and experience in negotiating & drafting of contracts of any kind.

Relevant South African Legislation pertaining to labour rights, environmental protection, human rights and anti-fraud and corruption.

Exhibit an understanding of the requirements of the:
Sustainable Development Goals.
National Development Plan.

Ability to:
Develop the company’s sustainability strategy with goals and objectives.
Develop and review various sustainability-related policies where necessary.
Specify and manage key milestones to ensure the achievement of longer term goals and objectives in sustainability.
Translate the business context in relation to sustainability considering the political, social, technological, legal, environmental and economic climate in order to anticipate, plan for, and intervene for future needs and opportunities.
Evaluate key sustainability trends, risks and opportunities facing the business.
Lead the development of new thinking and innovation across the sustainability discipline.
