Minimum Education and Work Experience
? Required: Undergraduate degree required (commercial, engineering, or town planning).

? Preferred: Minimum 5-8 years progressive experience in network planning and development in a retail or
? Educational environment. This implies the following competencies:
? Market planning – sound knowledge
? Project management – sound knowledge
? Zoning laws, building codes and permitting process – sound knowledge
? Investment analysis (BEM / DCF) – Good knowledge with capacity to learn more
? Property Contractual Law – beneficial
? Sales and Marking experience
? Excellent deal makers /negotiators having been involved in retail property developments e.g building of shopping malls etc. with project
management skills.
? Build franchise stores across the continent so must have good understanding of network planning, town planning processes e.g. applying for
zoning etc., must have dealt with councils
? Team management

Description

International Africa Franchise Development Manager needed for an Educational Brand Mathematical background (Johannesburg, Gauteng).
The successful incumbent will ensure delivery of the annual franchise development plan (new builds, relocates, closures & remodels) for this top franchise throughout Africa. Annual projects of 50+/- new outlets, 3-5 relocates, 4-5 closures, 50 remodels, and 30 IFA renewals.
Duties included but are not limited to:

Development Pipeline Delivery (65%)

• Coach & support a team of 2 Development Managers to ensure timeous delivery of the annual
development pipeline targets via franchisees and their professional teams (achieving store numbers,
sales targets vs. plan, & store week targets), by ensuring pro-active management of project milestones,
management of the trade zone designation process (incl. Fz : Equity).
• Secure future development pipeline through early approval of projects.
• Work with assigned franchisees (both yours and your Development Managers) assigned by Director,
International Franchise Development
• Track project progress vs. plan and provide monthly status report updates to the business, including
detailed pipeline risk assessment.
• Drive timeous delivery of annual Remodel Pipeline via franchisees and their professional teams to ensure
that all remodels are timeously scoped, completed and signed off.
• Ensure that franchisee relationships in the region are stable and that issues are identified pro-actively and
care is taken to include other members of the Development Team to solve problems (eg. trade zone
designation).
• Monitor and track performance of contractors, architects, project managers and suppliers to prevent
bottlenecks in terms of delivery of pipeline and escalate problems where necessary.

Strategic Projects (20%)

• Own, lead and manage thought leadership and execution of Development Big Rock Strategic Project
(Small Format, Small Town, Market Planning, etc.). Drive all internal alignment (including Development
and LT) to ensure project is successful and deliver significant incremental development opportunity over
a 5 year period (>30 units).

Administrative (10%)

• Ensure all projects are updated in the pipeline system immediately as changes occur, and all critical
dates are closely managed (to be defined by Director International Franchise Development)
• Create and issue all approval letters for new sites, relocates and/or notice letter related to specific
franchisees managed.
• Ensure these are sent for proper filing to department PA and are properly put into the system and
managed timely.

Strategic / Tactical (5%)

• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with Real Estate Owners/Brokers and Developers to ensure
client is first choice tenant.
• Provide thought leadership on market penetration, development policies, site / trade zone allocation,
encroachment, franchisee resources
