IT OPERATIONS MANAGER
R50 - 75K ctc PM

• Manage the IT environment on a day-to-operational level, to support Strategic Business Outcomes to corporate-level standards
• Ensure all IT systems are stable, reliable, accessible and have minimum downtime.
• Ensure that all IT Systems enable the Business Units functions and daily operations in an efficient and optimised manner.
• Manage the System Capacity effectively and optimally
• Lead and manage an IT technical team responsible for a ensuring the I\Technology environment is stable, and fit for purpose.
• Engage effectively across the organization to ensure the development and implementation of comprehensive services and solutions to meet business requirements
• Support the definition and enforcement of ITIL-based policies to improve IT Service Delivery to the business.
• Manage Data Centre operations, Server environment, Networking and Disaster Recovery functions
• Foster a team environment of curiosity and continuous improvement
• Establish, track and review SLAs and KPIs for operational services and meet defined performance measures
• Identify, measure, benchmark, analyse and perform regular review of capacity
• Mentor, coach and develop team members. Analyse results for trends, process improvement opportunities and staff training needs and take appropriate action to improve results
• Manage the technical life cycle of assets (hardware and software)
• Assist in the development and management of budgets for capital and operating expenses
• Communicate, both verbally and in writing, to explain how the various technical pieces work to provide useful solutions to the business.
• Manage the IT operations team on-call schedule
• Manage the help desk and ticketing system. Ensure all calls are closed within the agreed business SLA
• Effectively manage third party operations vendor relationships ensuring proper service levels
Minimum Requirements
5 years of IT management experience in a 24x7 operational environment
Experience in working in an Insurance or other Financial services organisation is preferable.
Good stakeholder engagement and inter-personal communication skills is important; the candidate needs to be able to engage with all levels of staff from junior to Executive level.
Needs to have a strong client-centric mindset in everything that he/she does.
Critical Skills
• Strong understanding of desktop operation, server operations, virtualization, and databases
• Strong understanding of networking including load balancers, DNS and wide area networks
• Experience with datacentres and datacentre management
• Experience with network operations centres
• Experience with server virtualization technologies
• Experience using ITIL practices for change, incident and problem management
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• History of demonstrating excellent technology leadership and decision making
• Experience building dashboards to accurately reflect the user experience
• Experience with independent audits (e.g. ISO)
Additional Skills & Qualifications
• 5 years working experience
• Degree in computer science
• Familiarity with Microsoft products
• MSDE qualification
• Solid understanding of storage technologies
• Attention to security issues and vulnerability management
