Background

Wits Pathology is distinctive in the development of laboratory scale-up in South Africa providing
support to the largest HIV and TB Laboratory monitoring programme worldwide. EQUIP innovation
for Health is harnessing the efforts of Wits Pathology to provide technical assistance to USAID
Missions, Ministries of Health and in-country partners in Africa.

Main purpose of the job

To perform an initial Laboratory Information Monitoring System (LIMS)GAP analysis for each African
country identified by EQUIP and collaboratively propose and/or implement an appropriate solution
into that country.

Location: Witwatersrand University, Medical School, Parktown

Key Performance Areas
To compile technical specification and design to ensure that programs are aligned to and address the EQUIP needs in each country.
To ensure that system solutions are developed in line with technical specifications to meet business of EQUIP.
To ensure that all relevant technical documentation and training notes are created, distributed and stored appropriately.
To create test cases and test solutions to ensure that required standards and objectives are met.
To provide training to relevant stakeholders to ensure that they understand and achieve optimal system utilisation.
To monitor and evaluate the LIMS/electronic resulting system in order to ensure accurate data reporting.
To foster close relationships with the various Ministries of Health, in-country partners and other relevant stakeholders in order to allow for a close collaboration to ensure high-quality viral load test resulting within each country

Required minimum education and training

IT degree or Diploma or A+ Certificate. An N+ Certificate will be an added advantage.
Required minimum work experience

Minimum 2 years’ experience in IT system support.
Experience working in Medical Pathology Laboratories.
Additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Good understanding of systems development lifecycle methodology.
Ability to develop creative solutions to LIMS and laboratory resulting within appropriate time frames
Experience working in research or Donor Funded projects on skills development will be an added advantage.
Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and analytical skills.
Ability to stay abreast of developments in the rapidly moving IT industry and apply the knowledge as and when needed.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Ability to work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met.
Ability to anticipate problems and identify, advise or implement a new and unique way to ensure high-quality service levels.
Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively, frequently initiating and pursuing professional relationships with Ministries of Health and in-country partners.
Frequent travel to the specified African countries is expected.
