60 Degrees is currently working with an exciting, UK-backed, Tech client with offices in sunny Cape Town. What you will be doing:
It’s a startup environment, so you could be doing loads! You will need to be someone who is excited by this and doesn’t mind lending a hand in an area that may not necessarily be within your scope to help the team achieve greatness. However, if pressed to explain your role, you will be delivering front and back-end elements for mobile and web applications, while working alongside the CTO and development team, assisting with planning, as well as advising and assisting with the overall development strategy. Further to this, you will take part in regular stand-ups, planning sessions, retrospectives and development sprints. As it is very collaborative, you will also be contributing to creating and running automated testing, maintenance and bug-resolution processes, while chipping in with the maintenance of the development and production environments.


What we would like you to have:
  • Solid knowledge and experience with JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3, and good experience with JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery, Angular, Meteor, Ember, React, Backbone, Node, Raphael, D3, Knockout, Handlebars.
  • A working knowledge of current web and mobile app development, including responsive & interaction development.
  • Comfortable working in a Unix environment on OS X.
 
It’s not essential, but we would like you even more if you had:
  • Worked within Agile and Scrum environments.
  • Test-driven development
  • Experience with GitHub, Heroku and Pivotal Tracker.
  • Server and back-end development experience, ideally with Ruby on Rails or similar languages.
  • Database development experience, ideally with MySQL, PosgreSGL, and some NoSQL.
  • Using frameworks like Apache Cordova or PhoneGap for hybrid app development and further to that, an understanding of the pros, cons and limitations of hybrid mobile app development.
  • A working knowledge of APIs and web services, particularly JSON, SOAP and similar data integration methods.
  • A working knowledge of cloud development, hosting and database services, web server hosting, domain hosting and DNS.
  • Knowledge of Redis, Resque, Memcached and WebSockets.
  • A working knowledge of SaaS, IAAS, MBaaS and BaaS services.
  • Native mobile language experience: iOS / Android.
  • A degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, e.g. Computer Science, IT, ICT.
