Junior Accountant- URGENT - start asap

Our client is within the renewable energy sector and is looking for a junior accountant to join head office.

This person needs to come from an infrastructure type of environment. (Construction/ power / energy sector)

you have to have a completed finance degree

you have to have at least 4 years experience

Function:

To provide a professional accounting function to the company by processing payables, receivables, general ledger accounting entries, reconciliations, petty cash, payroll transactions, etc.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Description

Performance Indicators

Prepares payment vouchers with complete supporting documents and issues cheque/EFT’s after approval from the authorised authority;

· Maintains petty cash expenses account in Excel and ensure all entries in petty cash register (General Ledger) to keep record of petty cash accounts;

· Processes and records financial transactions during the day and prepares different reports and all type of vouchers when desired by the Accounts Manager / Finance Manager;

· Processes bank transactions, ensures the bank books are updated daily and preparation of monthly bank reconciliations Prepare bank reconciliations in a timely manner, ensuring reconciling items are valid and clear;

· Prepare reconciliations / analyses for balance sheet and income / expense items;

· Assists Senior Accountant / Finance Manager in preparation of monthly closing vouchers for all expenses with all supporting documents;

· Maintains up to date record of Fixed Assets & Depreciation register;

· Coordinates with Administration Department to organize the petty cash payments, supplier’s advance payments as per the contract terms and verification of monthly payroll;

· Liaises with external auditors in the discharge of their audit responsibilities.

Supporting documents are attached to all payment vouchers and are approved by the relevant person

Petty cash account is updated accordingly and all supporting documents are kept on file

All transactions that should be recorded are recorded timeously and that reports/vouchers are available when needed

Process bank transactions as payments/deposits are made. Prepare bank reconciliations monthly. Prepare bank reconciliations monthly and follow up on items

Ensure reconciliations are prepared monthly

All asset movements and depreciation are recorded monthly

Ensure that all payments are made timeously as per contracts

Ensure all information required by auditors is provided to them.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or Business Administration with Accounting

Minimum Experience:

At least 3-5 years’ work experience in the infrastructure or similar industry;
Position Specific Skills:

Knowledgeable in Applicable accounting laws, Tax laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures;
Sound Knowledge of Microsoft Office & Other IT Applications;
Able to work independently and in a challenging environment;
Strong organisational and time management skills;
Excellent communication skills in all forms – telephone, oral, written, email.
