Requirements:

• Matric
• Relevant industry-related qualification an advantage
• Minimum 2 years’ relevant Audio Visual, Audio or Lighting experience.

Skills:

• Basic knowledge of equipment, practices and safety standards, including their application to live events installations.
• Considerable AV experience
• Product knowledge
• Problem-solving (technical) skills

Basic Knowledge:

• Extensive AV and Audio knowledge within a corporate AV environment
• Client-facing and client handling experience
• Must have worked on corporate events
• Fully Computer literate


Main Objectives:

1. Execute the technical aspects of a Live Event within his/her field of expertise for the Lagoon Beach Hotel Cape Town branch according to top production standards.
2. Ensure that preparation, installation, dis-assembly and removal of equipment and associated activities are carried out efficiently and safely according to the South African Occupational Health and Safety Act and Gearhouse Group standard practice.
3. Maintain a thorough understanding of Health and Safety Practices within the Live Event industry.

Responsibilities:

Workshop out-going

• Check the equipment lists against technical information, ensuring that the list is comprehensive and accurate.
• Ensure that he/she is in possession of a Function Pack for the relevant job.
• Familiarise him/herself with the equipment list, schedules and drawings (when available).
• Ensure that he/she is in possession of all information necessary to successfully complete the assigned task.
• Prepare equipment for load-in, ensuring that the preparation areas are kept clean and safe in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
• Check that the equipment being prepared corresponds to the event equipment list and that any extras have been authorised.

Workshop returning

• Load and off-load trucks and return equipment to storage areas after the event.
• Report any damage to equipment or Inhouse property to the General Manager immediately.

Onsite

• Attend a site reconnaissance if required.
• Make sure that he/she has a Function Pack or an understanding of call times and event dates.
• Take instruction from the General Manager/Senior Technician/Project Manager or Responsible person at the venue.
• Perform duties efficiently and professionally and adhere to technical schedules.
• Conduct him/herself appropriately on-site, adhering to dress codes and safety standards.
• Setup/install basic equipment according to drawings, plans and/or instruction.
• Operate equipment for standard shows for rehearsals, set-up requirements as well as the actual event.
• Identify and repair minor technical problems (troubleshoot).
• Perform routine diagnostics and repairs of equipment within his/her capabilities.
• Report damaged equipment to the Venue Technical Manager/Senior Technician, log any on-site repairs or arrange for the appropriate repairs on returning the equipment to the Workshop.
• Solve any on-site problems within the scope of his/her capabilities, bringing any other problems to the attention of the Senior Technician/Project Manager onsite.
• Oversee any trainee technicians or Stagehands assigned to the job.
• After the event, dismantle equipment and return to workshop, checking that no equipment is left behind at the venue.
• Take care of personal tools and company equipment/property.
• Make sure that third party equipment/property sustains no damage.
• Complete and hand in a Job Report for each Job if he/she is designated senior person on the event.

Workshop

• Assist with cleaning and sorting of the general Workshop areas, if required.
• Perform preventative maintenance when necessary on IVTM hire stock.

General

• Assist management with any other duties as may be required.
