Job Title: Junior Data Scientist

Salary up to: R500 000.00 per annum

A Leading company in the Telecoms industry is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to advocate, evangelize and build data-fuelled products that help our business improve customer growth and retention. You’ll dig in and become an expert on the Group Companies datasets. You will provide insight into leading analytic practices, design and lead iterative learning and development cycles, and ultimately produce new and creative analytic solutions that will become part of our core deliverables.

You will work with cross-functional team members to identify and prioritize actionable, high-impact insights across a variety of core business areas. You will lead applied analytics initiatives that are leveraged across the breadth of our solutions for all Group companies. You will research, design, implement and validate cutting-edge algorithms to analyse diverse sources of data to achieve targeted outcomes.

You will play a central role in the formulation and realization of our Big Data Strategy. Insight and participation in the (Apache/Continuum) ecosystem are required, as well as hands-on experience with some of the important components. Together with the data engineer, you will utilize, maintain and upgrade the current Big Data Platform (see below).

Minimum requirements:

• Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in operations research, applied statistics, applied mathematics, physics, data mining, machine learning or a related quantitative discipline
• Expert in analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets with a variety of tools.
• Fluent with both relational algebra and MapReduce logic.
• Deep understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, and recommendation and optimization algorithms
• Accomplished in the use of statistical analysis environments such as R, scikit-learn, MLlib, MATLAB, SPSS or SAS
• Sound knowledge of business principles
• Familiar with tools that encourage reproducibility and collaboration; Jupyter, Zeppelin, RStudio, git
• Experience with enterprise BI; QlikView, Lumira, Tableau, Zoomdata, Cognos, SAP BW, SSRS, …
• Experience with enterprise ETL; SSIS, SAP DS, IBM DataStage, Pentaho
• Development experience in order of preference: Python, C/C++, Java
• Advanced Linux user.
• Microsoft Office; Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Outlook as well as modern collaboration tools (JIRA, splunk, Yammer, Confluence …)
• 1+ Years Business Analysis Experience
