A large wireless solutions company based in Johannesburg close to Fourways are currently looking for a Junior Field Technician to start as soon as possible. Candidates must live around the area – from the West Rand/ Randburg to Douglasdale/ Sunninghill areas as they feel that candidates travelling from Benoni; East Rand, etc. will eventually have a problem with the distance travelled every day.
Salary: R7000 – R8000 (The technician will use the company bakkie. Should they use their own vehicle, petrol will be refunded at the AA rate as long as they filled in a log book for the trip)
Job purpose:
Development and support primarily in-house systems and the main distribution system
Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12
- Own vehicle & valid unendorsed driver’s License
- N+ is a minimum requirement
- Wireless LAN experience an advantage
- Barcode Scanners and Printers experience an advantage
- Ability to do physical installations of hardware
- Knowledge of basic networking/ network cabling/ wi-fi networks
- 1 Year IT experience required
- IT Experience within the following industry sectors preferred (but not required): Logistics industry, Mining industry & Manufacturing
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Receive technical instruction from Technical Manager/Supervisor as and when necessary and deems fit.
- Carry out duties and tasks to the best of your ability and in a reasonable and efficient timeframe.
- Perform technical tasks; cable laying, repairs, installation of network points and other cable network related duties, wireless support and installations and all warehouse equipment i.e. handheld scanners, access points and printers.
- Perform Site Surveys
- Drive to and from site. A valid driver’s license is imperative.
- Provide technical assistance and support on printers and scanners and wireless infrastructures.
- Receive instructions from Admin Officer regarding delivery/collections as and when required.
- Provide necessary technical services regarding SLA fault call outs and other fault call outs (wireless and warehouse equipment).
- Pack the tool box with the necessary tools required for each installation. Liaise with Technical Manager/Supervisor and colleagues to ensure exact equipment is packed.
- Look out for on-site sales opportunities. Complete the Job Card so that Admin Officer/Sales can compile quotations and network upgrades recommendations to the client.
- Plan daily tasks and complete time sheets.
- Be available to provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd line technical support for fault call outs. This includes after hours technical service requirements.
- Assist to ensure that successful site sign-off documents and fault reports are obtained.
- Monitor stock and advise Admin Officer when stock orders become necessary.
- Test and configure new equipment before sending to customers.
- Test equipment returned from repairs.
- Check emails daily and respond where necessary.
- Provide adequate feedback to Admin Officer and Managers regarding completed jobs and/or problem areas.
- Maintain good communications within the office and amongst colleagues.
- Provide concise and up to date feedback to the customer.
- Be available for afterhours technical support.
