Our client is a small company involved in computer based instrumentation mainly in the mining industry, the company was established in 1997, is based in Randburg.

Remuneration:
• A starting salary of between R9000-00 and R10 000-00 ( depending on qualifications, experience) per month
• Review period of 3 months
• Travel to be paid per Km as per AA rates, once the technician is capable of working independently, he will be put onto the car allowance scheme and paid a basic allowance each month irrespective of Km travelled, Km travelled will be paid on a AA rate based on a 1600cc sedan
• Overtime to be paid on a hourly rate as per the gross salary
• All accommodation, meals, refreshments etc to be paid by the employer
• A company cell phone will be provided once the candidate is capable of working independently, the technician will be liable for any private cell phone calls over and above the contract calls, to be deducted from his monthly salary
• Leave 15 days per year, sick leave as per government employment legalisation
• Annual bonuses and increases are at the discretion of the directors

Purpose of the Job:
The company is involved with all the major mining and project groups namely:
Anglogold Ashanti, Anglo Platinum, Consolidated Murchison Mine, Harmony Gold Mining Company, Goldfields, Impala Platinum, Lonmin Platinum, Northam Platinum, Bafokeng Platinum, Barberton mines, Petra Diamonds, Rand Uranium, Sibanye Gold, Mopani Copper Mines (Zambia), Konkola Copper mines (Zambia), BCL mining (Botswana), Buluanhulu Mines (Tanzania), Katanga Mining (DRC), ABB South Africa, TWP South Africa, Actom South Africa, Murray and Roberts and DRA Projects.

The products they develop, manufacture, commission and maintain are as follows:
Safewind – Winder monitoring system interface to a mine winder to record the communication bells and other signals relating to the speed, position and action of the winder. The system additionally continuously monitors the conveyance connected to the winder to ensure the conveyance is not stuck in the shaft, this is known as Slack and Tight rope monitoring and is required by law for mine winders

Speedmass – In Motion weighing systems to automatically weigh railway trains whilst in motion including automatic vehicle identification

Saferecord – Winder speed recorder to record the speed of a mine winder, generates a graph on a daily basis. A number of these recorders can be connected to a central server PC which automatically mails the graphs for the various winders to the responsible persons, this recorder is required by law to be installed on a mine winder

Weighing Applications – General weighing and control applications including load monitoring of water filtering cyclones used in the mining industry to remove solids from water to prevent damage to pumping equipment

Main Functions:
• Manufacture and testing of the products mentioned above, including layout of system components in panels, mounting and wiring of system components, testing and configuration of systems in our workshop
• Commissioning of systems on site, part of the commissioning process involves installing strain gauge sensors on the mechanical structure of the sheaf wheels (Wheels on which the winder ropes run) in a challenging environment with regards to heat, grease etc
• Wiring, configuration and testing of systems on site
• Maintenance and servicing including telephonic support and on site
• Ordering of various components required to manufacture our systems
• Travel throughout South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania and the DRC
• Required to perform standby duties once trained on our products this would typically relate to one week per month when the candidate would be required to be on call 24 hours a day
• Underground work and work at heights on the mines, the candidate would have to be able to pass a mine medical exam

Requirements:
• Technical qualification in industrial electronics preferable N6 or technical matric with electronics
• Logical approach to fault finding
• Ability to work under pressure and make decisions independently on site
• Basic computer knowledge i.e. Word, Excel, Computer assembly and configuration
• Practical experience an advantage but not essential
• Drivers licence and own transport
