This International Materials Supply and Construction Company is looking fro 3x Lab Technicians to work in the UAE for a period of 6 months and thereafter be deployed in Sub - Saharan Africa.


LAB TECHNICIAN- ASPHALT/BITUMEN/EMULSION

FUNCTION DEFINITION / PURPOSE OF JOB

Responsible of any laboratory testing to be done in accordance with the latest version of test procedure and the relevant testing standard.
Responsible of the mix design used in the plant prior manufacturing of asphalt in accordance with the approved one.

Key Dimensions (size, budgets, etc.)

• SHE Performance: LTIs, NLTIs, Near Hits, Task Audits.
• Quality Control: Ensure a proper control of production by doing the test as per the Inspection test Plan of the laboratory and deliver relevant test report on time as per the given schedule and by reporting any failure in the laboratory process for a continual improvement.

Key Interfaces and Relationships

• Laboratory personnel, Technical Manager, Senior Mat Engineer, Site foreman, Asphalt Plant Foreman, Asphalt supervisor, machine operator on site, quarry manager.
• External: Main Contractors, Third Party Laboratories.

RESPONSIBILITIES & MEANS

Technical Responsibilities

• Assist Lab Assistant as and when required
• Proceed testing in accordance with the Inspection Test Plan in the laboratory.
• Assist the Senior Materials Engineer for any Submittal of document internally & externally.
• Allocate and supervise daily works of Lab assistant as and when required
• Perform all laboratory duties (sampling, testing, housekeeping, etc…) as per the given schedule
• Perform testing as per the latest version of test procedure and deliver the test results on time
• Liaise with Main contractor and/or consultants in day to day testing requirements and External
• Laboratories as and when necessary.
• Prepare lab reports and submit it to the Client and Consultants and maintain up to date records.
• Ensure that all the test results particularly failures are reported to the Senior Materials Engineer/
• Technical Manager on a timely basis and assist in establishing Root Causes of any such failures together with Remedial Actions to avoid repeats.
• Report any activity with a potential risk to the Senior Materials Engineer and/or the Technical manager before any such tasks are carried-out.
• Responsible to cover the duties of other Lab technician and Lab Assistant during his absence.



Operational Responsibilities

• Assist the contracting team on site for the targets to achieve (as per the Quality control plan) before operating
• Follow the schedule described into the maintenance program of the lab equipment
• Maintain the lab equipment in a good condition

SHEQ Responsibilities

• Take reasonable care for the safety and health of themselves and others.
• Co-operate with management and front-line supervision in complying with legal requirements and company
• SHEQ standards, safety rules and safe systems or work.
• Take part and actively participate in SHEQ training.
• Take part in legal and company health screening when required.
• Must not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of safety, health, welfare or the environment.
• Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as per site rules, safe systems of work, and as instructed by management or front-line supervision.
• Report all unsafe situations to management.
• Report all incidents and damage to management whether persons are injured or not.

Customer Service/Commercial Responsibilities

• Make sure that any sample delivered to customer (upon his request) is fully representative of the whole product.
• Complaint handling: provide full assistance for the trouble shooting thorough investigation of cause and implementation of corrective actions.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Diploma or Degree preferably in Chemistry or Any Science Discipline or Relevant/Similar

Experience / Achievements

• Minimum 2 - 4 years’ experience as Lab Attendant or 2 years’ experience in the similar role in Asphalt and Soil testing.
Knowledge

• Familiarity with International Standards like ASTM, AASHTO and BS.
• Shall be computer literate.
• Able to organise and prioritise own workload & others
• Able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines

Desirable

• Knowledge of bitumen and emulsion
