An established Petrochemical organisation based in Johannesburg (East Rand) requires an analytical and skilled individual to occupy the role of a Laboratory Analyst. The incumbent will be required to undertake a broad range of specialist chemistry, environmental and plant performance testing, both in the laboratory and on industrial sites.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Accurate analyses of samples
  • Deliver results at the end of the shift
  • Conform to quality management system
  • Report discrepancies of samples to the Lab
  • Keep, control and maintain records of all samples and analysis
  • Operation and maintenance of specialized equipment

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • To perform analyses using authorized test methods and procedures.
  • Follow ISO quality system requirements.
  • To produce and record traceable, verifiable, analytical results and other relevant data.
  • To immediately report results that exceed laid down limits to the Production Supervisor.
  • To identify any departures from the quality policy or procedures of the laboratory and to initiate actions to eliminate, prevent or minimize such departures.
  • To provide lab test reports to the Production Supervisor.
  • To be familiar with the latest applicable technology developments.
  • To provide training and conversely, undergo training, as required.
  • To maintain quality and safety standards as well as tidiness in the laboratory.
  • To perform relevant administrative duties in respect of samples, stocks and reports.
  • To adhere to current policies and regulations.
  • Laboratory analysts working with specialized analytical instruments like ICP-OES, GC/MS or other specialized equipment are required to be trained and deemed competent in the use of specialized equipment.
  • Laboratory analysts will be required to have been deemed competent in the use of the specialized analytical instruments like ICP-OES, GC/MS or other specialized equipment by their laboratory manager using the competency criteria as set out in the competency procedure. Satisfactory participation in inter laboratory proficiency testing schemes shall be one of the activities the laboratory analyst shall perform to deem him/her competent.

MINIMUM REQUIREMNETS

  • National Diploma or BTech qualification in Chemistry. 
  • 3+ years Laboratory experience required.
  • Proven ability to perform duties after undergoing on-the-job training and evaluation.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of specialized analytical instruments like ICP-OES and GC/MS
