Our client an international leader in food manufacturing is looking for a Lab Technician for a
5 months contract period.

Job description:
Sensory evaluation, visual evaluation and analytical testing (pH, water activity, moisture etc.) of incoming raw materials against the testing plan to determine its acceptability for release and capturing of the results on the Atlas.
Sampling and sending of raw materials to external labs for chemical testing.
Ad-hoc analysis and release (where required) of raw materials in stock – e.g. monthly sampling of corn & wheat flour from internal & external silo’s or random investigations.
Evaluation of expired raw materials.
Analysis of in-process samples and packed product as required.
Ensuring that samples for microbiological analysis are sent off to the external Micro Laboratory timeously and documentation of results.
Responsible for all microbiological analysis for hygiene swabs (equipment – sent to external Micro Lab & hands – internal testing)
Analysis of effluent wastewater for pH and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand).
Sampling of Potable water, retort shower water, CIP and cooler water & testing air quality microbiologically.
Qualifications
Food Technology / BTech Food Technology / BSC Food Science / Microbiology and or Analytical Chemistry and a min of 3-5 years’ experience in a FMCG environment.
Knowledge of herbs and spices, salt, sugar, starch and flour
Knowledge or exposure to retorting / thermal processed foods
Experience in internal auditing and / hygiene audits
