Main purpose of the job
To handle, process, interpret and prepare biological samples and conduct biochemical tests according to the required protocols and adhering to GCLP (Good Clinical Laboratory Practice) guidelines, assist with general laboratory and office administration.

Location
DPHRU – Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto.

Key performance areas
• Collection and processing of biological samples according to strict standard operating procedures.
• Centrifugation of blood samples.
• Laboratory practices – biological sample handling and biochemical tests.
• Data collection and capturing.
• Perform other activities related to data management.
• Transportation of samples from the hospital to DPHRU laboratory.
• Perform routine biochemistry and RIA/Elisa biochemistry.
• To run Auto-Analyzer.
• Assist with laboratory administration and any other ad-hoc functions.

Required minimum education and training
A four year diploma in Medical Technology

Required minimum work experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a research environment and the laboratory.

Additional education, work experience and personal abilities
High levels of computer literacy and advance use of Access will be required.
A well-developed work ethic and drive.
Capacity to work under pressure and after hours when required.
Versatility to apply quantitative and qualitative methodologies to changing subject matter across disciplinary boundaries.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
A valid driver’s licence is essential.

Successful candidate will be required to work on a 7 nights on and 7 nights off system.
