LEAD STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
Purpose of the role:
As structural RE act as the (structural) Engineer’s representative on the project.

This would include to inspect that the structures on the project are built according to the designs and specifications, to provide feedback to the design office on any problems and to assist the contractor to get it right.

Qualification required:
PrEng with M.Eng preferred

Experience:
15 plus with min 12 years applicable design experience

Software:
- Etabs
- Prokon

ISO 9000

Purpose of the role
To be the structural department’s lead design engineer on concrete and structural steel structures and to be involved with designs and related work for 80% of his time.
Lead Design Engineering functions on
1. Civil structures like concrete water and sewage treatment structures including post tensioned reservoirs with flat and domed roofs and bridges;
2. Multi-Storey Commercial Buildings including basements;
3. Industrial buildings (Warehouses, Workshops).

Job Duties:
To be the first point-of-call for structural designs in the department; To execute concept and feasibility designs up to final designs, including analysis and seismic designs; Working knowledge of Etabs programme is preferred Expert knowledge of Prokon; Mentoring junior engineers and monitoring their work; marking up and checking concrete and structural steel layouts and rebar drawings for draughtsmen and detailers when required; sign off drawings for issuing and stand in for HoD when required

Responsibilities/Duties

• The ability to apply fundamental engineering knowledge to conceptualised engineering problems.
• The ability to timelessly detail and specify solutions (drawings, reports etc.) to engineering problems.
• The ability to manage part or all of the activities related to construction of engineering solutions.
• The ability to communicate clearly with others in the course of his or her engineering activities.
• The ability to recognise and address the reasonably foreseeable social, cultural and environmental effects of complex engineering activities.
• The ability to conduct engineering and work-related activities ethically.
• Excellent knowledge of Reinforced Concrete Design, Structural Steel Design, design of Water Retaining Concrete Structures, including Concrete Reservoirs 5 Ml to 30 Ml in post tensioned concrete.
• Excellent knowledge of Reinforced Concrete Design, Structural Steel Design, design of Water Retaining Concrete Structures, including Concrete Reservoirs using post tensioned concrete.
• Knowledge of current design codes and software.
• Manage and mentor junior engineers, detailers and draughts men, schedule and check their work to ensure it is issued timeously and in compliance to all plans and specifications.
• Resolve client and architect queries and attend design and project meetings.
• nteract professionally with staff from other divisions.
• Responsible for maintaining the departments ISO registration
• Incumbent is expected to carry out site supervision of construction works for short and sometimes long durations on sites as follows;
o Ensuring compliance with design/specifications and standards
o Ensuring compliance with programme and all knowledge areas
o Attending site meetings
o Preparing reports
o Issuing of Site Instructions (SIs)
o Attending to Requests For Information (RFIs) from the contractor
• Do any ad-hoc office or site duties as assigned by the HoD Structures.
• Engage in activities which contribute to personal CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and maintain professional accreditation.
• Responsible for on-going informal and formal development to stay abreast of innovations in the industry.
