About the job
The purpose of the position is to provide support in the delivery of reliable, accurate, timely and well-informed advice to the group on legal matters and the potential legal implications of various corporate strategies, business initiatives and projects. Also provide secretariat duties to the Board.

Responsibilities
Legal responsibilities:
Provide advice to the group on changes in relevant regulatory and legislative framework
Transactional legal advice on any contracts entered to by the group Provide legal support to the group with regards group’s policies, disputes, employment, contracts etc.
Manage and liaise with 3rd party attorneys to provide instruction and monitor litigation
Keep abreast of new legislation, updated legislation and case law to monitor legislative changes and advise business accordingly
Reviewing and development of group policies in line with legal and regulatory requirements
Amendments and updating of the group policies document and overseeing implementation thereof in conjunction with HR
Assisting in the compilation of the B-BBEE Scorecard
Produce reports as required by senior personnel
Drafting and reviewing contracts and advising thereon
Providing advice to HR on labour matters and assisting with disciplinary of employees
Liaise with external attorneys on matters, as and when required
Group Secretariat responsibilities
Advise the Board and respective committees on any changes to such regulations and implication thereof to the group
Review legislative, regulatory and governance developments that may impact the group and ensure the Board is appropriately briefed on such
Provide support and assistance on company secretarial duties to the Company Secretary
Risk Management
Legal risk detection and assessment of the implementation of risk management policies and processes
Managing the risks related to non-compliance and compiling reports on risk areas.
Identify any applicable risks from contracts entered into
Minimise litigation risk
General
Carry out any other ad hoc duties required by the group from time to time
Generally assist and support the head of the legal business unit in all matters
Ensure the quality management system is correctly implemented in the business unit


Qualifications and Experience
Admitted attorney with 5 – 10 years PQE in a commercial environment, partly in a commercial law practice and partly in a corporate.
Strong base in contract law.
Sound experience with drafting agreements and company secretarial work.
Good knowledge of company law and labour law.
Strong knowledge of construction industry law
Experience in advising on corporate governance is an advantage.
